Job Title: Senior Applied Chiller Technician

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced and dependable Senior Applied Chiller Technician to join our team in Bakersfield, CA. This senior-level role is critical to ensuring the performance, reliability, and efficiency of large-scale chiller systems and central plant operations. The ideal candidate will have a proven background in diagnosing and servicing high-tonnage chillers, executing complex overhauls, and providing technical leadership in the field. Key Responsibilities
- Chiller Diagnostics & Repair: Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair high-capacity applied chillers (100+ tons), including centrifugal, screw, air-cooled, and water-cooled units.
- Centrifugal Overhauls: Lead or perform major service overhauls on centrifugal chillers, including disassembly, rebuild, and commissioning.
- System Commissioning: Conduct complete commissioning activities-testing, programming, startup, calibration, and performance optimization.
- Preventative Maintenance: Schedule and execute routine and preventive maintenance on chillers, cooling towers, pumps, motors, valves, and related plant infrastructure.
- Technical Oversight: Mentor junior technicians, assist with complex diagnostics, and provide repair recommendations from issue identification through job completion.
- Rigging & Equipment Handling: Plan and coordinate rigging operations for the safe transport, installation, or removal of large HVAC systems and components.
- Emergency Service: Respond to after-hours or urgent service requests on a rotating on-call basis.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety procedures, and site-specific safety protocols.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed service records, maintenance logs, and equipment history files using digital tools and service management software.
- Client Relationship Management: Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, ensuring their needs and concerns are addressed effectively.
- Team Collaboration: Work directly with the Chiller Field Supervisor to support ongoing service contracts, troubleshoot system issues, and assist with new business opportunities.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience as an HVAC/chiller technician in commercial or industrial environments.
- Technical trade school graduate or equivalent HVAC-related training.
- Extensive experience with Centrifugal and screw chillers (100+ tons), Cooling towers and pump systems, Large central plant operations
- EPA Section 608 Certification (Type II or Universal) required.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Competency in reading blueprints, wiring schematics, and service manuals.
- Skilled in using computers and service tools for diagnostics, programming, and documentation.
- Valid California driver's license and clean driving record.
- Physically fit for field work, including lifting/maneuvering heavy equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with centrifugal chiller overhauls.
- Manufacturer training or certifications from Trane, Carrier, York, or Daikin.
- Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS).
- Experience servicing mission-critical facilities or industrial HVAC infrastructure.
