Description GEOTEK/PUPI, a market leader in engineered fiberglass composite utility structures, is looking for high-potential, highly motivated engineers to join our engineering team. As a global supplier of fiberglass crossarms for utility structures, we work with customers of all sizes ranging from rural co-ops to municipalities, to investor-owned utilities. PUPI crossarm products, including the pultruded fiberglass composite materials, are designed and manufactured at our facility in Stewartville, MN (Suburb of Rochester, and 1.5 hours south of the Minneapolis/St. Paul). With a product portfolio which spans distribution and transmission structures, we provide both standard and customized solutions for customers. Technology, Engineering, and Service are central to our value proposition, and PUPI engineers support these pillars through new product development and R&D initiatives using state of the art design tools and onsite lab space.
The Sr. Applications Engineer is responsible for assisting customers in designing distribution and transmission utility structures using PUPI fiberglass products and structures, designing new products based on customer requirements, preparing technical proposals for customer bids, and being a leader within the Applications Engineering team. The Sr. Applications Engineer position is a customer facing position, and requires excellent communication skills, and a customer centric mindset. The successful candidate will be a problem solver, an innovator, and a leader, and will have a demonstrated record of action, drive, and passion. The successful candidate will have distribution line design experience, especially experience designing distribution structures (transmission structure and/or substation structure design experience is a plus). Previous experience with fiberglass crossarms and/or poles is highly desired. Requirements Essential Functions
• Develop, maintain, and "own" the technical relationship with customers. Be an advocate for use of fiberglass structures in utility structures applications.
• Understand, develop, and clarify customer requirements for structural loading and usage.
• Perform distribution and transmission line design calculations, using hand calculations and/or CAD (such as PLS and/or SpidaCalc, etc) according to the NESC code.
• Perform structural calculations and analysis of PUPI crossarms and other distribution/transmission structures to determine suitability of the customer's applications.
• Prepare and conduct presentations and proposals to customers, as needed.
• Lead the development of technical proposals for bids, leading a team of engineers and other cross-functional members as necessary
• Identify new product opportunities and opportunities for innovation.
• Be a leader within the Application Engineering team with a customer focus, developing strategies and tactics which support the needs of the business.
• Conduct engineering review and approval of designs and other engineering work.
• Schedule and conduct testing of new and existing product in partnership with GEOTEK test engineers.
• Review and interpret analysis and test results and use sound engineering judgement to make data driven design decisions.
• Coordinate or guide design documentation such as engineering drawings, Bills of Materials, reports, etc.
• Develop a strong partnership with the Sales and Operations teams and collaborate with them to ensure all customer expectations are met.
• Represent GEOTEK/PUPI in front of the customer with a high degree of integrity, credibility, and passion.
• Occasional travel required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year engineering program (Mechanical, civil, structural). Advanced degrees are desired.
• Currently (or ability to become) Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), highly desired.
• 5+ years' experience in an electrical utility company and/or engineering consulting firm designing distribution lines and structures meeting RUS, NESC, and other relevant standards. Examples of work desirable.
• Experience with 3D CAD software; SolidWorks preferred.
• Proficient in distribution line design software such as PLS CADD/Pole, SPIDACalc, and/or O-Calc.
• Experience in front of customers; Experience with presenting proposals, work, etc.
• Proven record of leading projects (project management) and on-time delivery of projects.
• Previous supervisory experience a plus.
Physical Work Conditions
- Generally, office environment, but some manual work and manipulation of product and hardware in the test lab and at customer sites is required.
