Under the general direction of an Information Technology Manager I (ITM I) and the Custom Applications/Client Server Support Section Chief, the Senior Developer, Information Technology Specialist II (ITS II) provides advanced technical expertise in the design, development/ configuration, implementation, and maintenance of applications and services supporting the Transportation System Network Replacement (TSNR) system.
This role involves supporting geospatial integration, mapping applications, and data analytics to meet federal requirements. The work directly contributes to compliance with the Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) and the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP).
MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
The ITS II acts as a technical lead and developer, responsible for defining, designing, developing, documenting, coordinating, and integrating solutions within the Division. Their primary focus is on implementing technology solutions through IT to meet business objectives, including but not limited to GIS-based applications. The ITS II has comprehensive technical expertise, including knowledge of emerging technologies, including GIS technologies, that align with the department's standard software and solutions. As a recognized expert in their field, the ITS II develops prototypes, models, and tools using business intelligence analytics, procedures, and software. Demonstrating leadership, the ITS II collaborates with peers and management, mentors other technical team members, and advises executive leadership on standards, processes, and technology practices for key project.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
The incumbent may work after regular business hours and/or weekends to perform activities to support business operations. The incumbent must carry a cell phone and respond to calls after hours to support these business operations.The employee may be required to travel. When available, a State vehicle will be provided. Possession of a valid driver's license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle. If the employee utilizes their own personal vehicle, they may be reimbursed for travel expenses.
Core Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm.
