SUMMARY: The Senior Analytics Engineer serves as a bridge between raw data and actionable insight, leading the transformation of data into curated, governed, and analytics-ready assets. This individual combines strong technical skills in data modeling, SQL-based transformation, and BI enablement with a strategic lens on data quality, governance, and system optimization. Partnering across Data Governance, DevOps, BI, and business teams, the Senior Analytics Engineer plays a critical role in delivering trustworthy datasets, enabling self-service analytics, and improving enterprise data maturity.
This role is based in our St. Paul MN office and requires an in-office presence 3-4 days a week.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Data Modeling & Transformation: Design, build, and maintain scalable data models and transformation pipelines (e.g., dbt, SQL) to support analytics and BI use cases.
- Standardization & Quality Assurance: Define, document, and enforce standards for data quality, naming conventions, field definitions, and metric logic across analytics assets, aligned with enterprise Data Governance standards.
- System & Database Optimization: Partner with DBAs and architects to optimize database structures for analytics. Support database performance tuning by identifying bottlenecks, improving queries, and enhancing schema design.
- Curated Data Delivery: Develop analytics-ready datasets, marts, and views within cloud-based or enterprise data platforms.
- Metadata & Documentation Management: Maintain data dictionaries, lineage documentation, and metadata repositories to ensure transparency and usability across datasets.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on data structures, source system logic, and analytics enablement across teams.
- Governance and Development Standards: Support governance initiatives through structured documentation, testing, version control, and alignment to modeling standards. Conduct regular audits and implement validation processes to ensure data consistency.
- Analytics Enablement Partnership: Collaborate with BI developers and Data Analysts to enable efficient, accurate, and self-service access to governed datasets.
- Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve data discrepancies, pipeline failures, and performance issues across staging, transformation, and reporting layers.
- Mentorship & Best Practice Development: Mentor junior team members and contribute to the advancement of shared standards, templates, and scalable best practices.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with Engineering, Product, Delivery teams, and developers to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that meet analytical and operational needs.
- Continuous Learning: Stay up to date with the latest database technologies, trends, and best practices to continuously improve your skills and contribute to team growth.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Need to Have:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Management, Data Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in database-focused roles, data analytics, or related fields.
- Understanding of database performance tuning and optimization techniques.
- Strong understanding of data governance, metadata, and quality principles.
- Strong problem-solving skills and strategic thinking
Nice to Have:
- Healthcare technology experience.
- Certifications in SQL, database management, or data analysis (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator, Oracle Certified Associate) are a plus.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) or reporting tools.
- Basic knowledge of cloud database technologies (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
Required Knowledge and Skills Required Knowledge:
- Advanced proficiency in SQL and data modeling techniques.
- Experience working with modern data warehouses and database management systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
