We are partnering up with a non-profit organization in Washington, D.C, in search for a Senior Accountant.
The Senior Accountant will be a key contributor in the month-end close process, preparation of financial statements, and financial analysis to support leadership and program teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
- Lead and manage the monthly and quarterly close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of all financial data.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and internal management reports for leadership and program teams.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including cash, investments, prepaids, accrued liabilities, and restricted net assets.
- Prepare supporting schedules and journal entries in accordance with GAAP and non-profit accounting standards.
Financial Analysis & Insights
- Provide financial analysis on budget-to-actual results, identifying key trends, variances, and risks.
- Partner with internal teams to provide financial insights that support operational and strategic decisions.
- Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process through data analysis and trend identification.
Grant & Fund Accounting
- Track and report on restricted funds and grants, ensuring compliance with donor and grantor requirements.
- Assist in preparing grant-specific financial reports and invoices.
Audit & Compliance Support
- Prepare audit schedules and support the annual external audit process.
- Assist with the preparation of the annual Form 990 and other compliance filings.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.
Financial Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation within the accounting and reporting function.
- Assist with documenting and refining accounting policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA or CPA-track strongly preferred.
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a non-profit or fund accounting environment.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and non-profit accounting standards (ASC 958).
- Experience with financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Proficiency with accounting software (Sage Intacct, NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving ability.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
