Job Title: Senior Accountant
Location: San Jose, California (Hybrid)
Compensation: $100,000 - $120,000 base salary + bonus + full benefits

About the Role
The Senior Accountant will report directly to the Assistant Controller and serve as a critical member of the accounting team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact development projects while supporting strong financial oversight, regulatory compliance, and cross-department collaboration. The ideal candidate has a strong background in real estate or affordable housing accounting and is comfortable operating in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual closings
- Manage intercompany transactions and equity accounting for multiple LLCs and LPs
- Support audit and tax processes for approximately 15 entities, working with CPA firms and internal teams
- Prepare and submit financial reports in accordance with investor and regulatory deadlines
- Contribute to the preparation of combined financial statements and tax trial balances
Asset Management
- Work with property accountants and asset management teams to verify accurate year-end trial balances
- Ensure monthly accounting data is correctly reflected in asset management systems
Project & Development Accounting
- Monitor project job costs and ensure accuracy of charges, accruals, and adjustments
- Coordinate with internal teams to track eligible/ineligible costs and align budgets with financial projections
- Review and process construction draw requests
- Record equity events, financing transactions, and ownership changes
Compliance & Reporting
- Prepare supporting documentation for internal and external audits
- Maintain compliance with tax reporting requirements and financial covenants
- Assist with REO reporting and contingent liability tracking
- Ensure LIHTC, HUD, and GAAP requirements are met
Process Improvement
- Contribute to the enhancement of internal controls and accounting procedures
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and increase efficiency
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Background in real estate development, affordable housing, or partnership accounting strongly preferred
Technical Skills
- Proficient in accounting systems (Yardi or Viewpoint Spectrum a plus)
- Strong Excel skills and experience with Microsoft Office
- Solid understanding of GAAP and basic tax concepts
Soft Skills
- High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities
- Able to work cross-functionally with Development, Construction, Asset Management, and leadership
