The Accountant is responsible for providing support to the Chief Financial Officer by producing financial summary statements, coordinating accounting functions, and monitoring the financial health of the business.

Schedule and Availability:

  • Weekdays during normal business hours from 8am to 5pm
  • Some overtime as required to meet deadlines

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operations of the Accounting Department, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll
  • Oversee training programs and identifies training needs

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk
  • Verify all balance sheet accounts are properly reconciled monthly to ensure accurate and timely monthly financial reporting
  • Provide details and responses for audits outside the normal course of business including but not limited to sales tax audits
  • Oversee the production and report timely monthly and quarterly financial reports to management, Pella Corporation, the bank, and additional interested parties as necessary
  • Ensure that the reported results are submitted timely and comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards
  • Recommend benchmarks that will be used to measure the company's performance
  • Produce the annual budget and forecasts, report significant budget differences to management
  • Provide financial analysis and metrics on monthly financials so management can make decisions regarding capital investments, pricing decisions, and other financially related decisions
  • Work with external auditors and provide needed information for the annual financial, workers compensation insurance, and general liability insurance audits
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements by submitting or management of the sales tax returns, 1099s, 941s, W-2s, and any other financial reporting due to the IRS, Department of Labor, OESC, and Social Security Commission
  • Develop and review accounting processes to increase efficiency and accuracy of accounting transactions
  • Performs all other duties as necessary or assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent management and supervisory skills
  • Understanding of industry benchmarks in accounting best practices

  • Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration required
  • Ten years or more of related experience required
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred

Mathematical and Reasoning Skills

  • Must be able to solve practical problems without supervision
  • Must be able to perform mathematical reasoning skills
  • Ability to efficiently prioritize tasks
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

Computer Skills:

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft suite
  • Must be familiar with smart devices
  • Ability to learn and utilize proprietary Pella software programs and applications and other business critical applications

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to communicate via phone and email in a timely manner
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to verbally present information and respond to questions from customers, managers, and other employees

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, type or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, or crouch
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time
  • Able to travel as needed

Work Environment

  • Work is primarily conducted onsite
  • The noise level for this position is usually moderate
