Its sister company, Crafted Structures manages the on-site components of our homes. We are currently seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support our team. The ideal candidate will provide operational support to our President and Operations team, enhancing their ability to effectively project finances. This role offers an excellent opportunity for growth within the modular prefab industry and exposure to various aspects of construction.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Accountant plays a vital role in overseeing SmartPads' accounting operations, financial reporting, and select HR functions. This role involves preparing timely and accurate financial statements, managing the accounting cycle, supervising the bookkeeper, and ensuring smooth coordination across departments and external partners. You'll also play a crucial role in budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and financial analysis to help guide strategic decision-making.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare monthly financial statements with complete supporting documentation.
  • Review and book accruals and necessary journal entries during month-end close.
  • Develop and maintain a monthly close checklist to ensure timely reporting.
  • Produce executive summaries with both narrative and analysis (KPIs) of financial performance for leadership and ownership.

Accounting Operations

  • Oversee and support the bookkeeper, answering questions and reviewing their work.
  • Manage A/R, A/P, payroll processes, and ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain job costing accuracy by project and ensure all cost allocations are properly recorded.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Develop annual budgets and cash flow forecasts (monthly).
  • Track actuals vs. budget and assist in financial planning initiatives.

Systems & Tools

  • Serve as the internal lead for accounting systems (QuickBooks) and project management tools (Builder Trend).
  • Assist with system maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.

HR & Benefits Administration

  • Support HR functions including health insurance, retirement plans, and other employee benefits.
  • Coordinate onboarding/offboarding processes and maintain accurate employee records.

External & Internal Coordination

  • Liaise with external advisors such as CPAs, legal counsel, insurance brokers, and retirement plan providers.
  • Support audits, compliance activities, and other external reporting requirements.
  • Some travel expected to visit with teams in Steamboat Springs, CO and Vernal, UT

QUALIFICATIONS

Technical Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ Years of progressive accounting experience, including financial reporting (preferably in construction or related field)
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks and strong Excel skills
  • Experience with Builder Trend or similar project management systems preferred
  • Strong understanding of accrual accounting and month-end close procedures
  • Ability to supervise and mentor junior staff
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
