Our client is a boutique, entrepreneurial New York based real estate investor and manager, that owns and operates a variety of properties throughout the NY metro area and in Florida. Their real estate portfolio includes multifamily, commercial and retail properties. The company is seeking a Senior Accountant to manage all the daily and periodic accounting needs of the company.
Role
Reporting to the Owner, the Senior Accountant will provide financial reporting and analysis for the portfolio of assets, as well as review a variety of loans and other capital structures.
Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform month-end close procedures, including journal entries and financial statement preparation and analysis.
- Prepare and review various key performance indicator reports to track the portfolio performance.
- Collaborate with the Owner to identify operational opportunities and deficiencies.
- Collaborate with the Owner on budget development, monthly variance analysis, and updated projections.
- Prepare accurate long and short-term cash flow forecasts; monitor cash balances.
- Monitor and reconcile bank accounts.
- Analyze investments and provide financial analytics and recommendations.
- Participate in the document review, underwriting, and preparation of closing statements for all acquisitions, dispositions, and financing activities.
- Review loan documents, create abstracts of terms and conditions, and prepare amortization schedules.
- Participate in the oversight of tax planning and preparation, coordinating with an external CPA Firm for tax filings.
- Maintain a working understanding of partnership agreements and apply terms to financial reporting and income and expense allocations.
- Other special projects and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting.
- 4-6 years of experience in accounting in commercial real estate and/or property management.
- CPA preferred.
- Understanding best practices, investor reporting, and need for reporting transparency.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail especially with regards to maintaining accurate financial records.
- Familiarity with common debt structure and loan facilities for commercial real estate.
- Ability to assess and understand complex capital structures, tax structures and real estate transactions, to ensure the proper accounting treatment is employed to achieve desired tax and reporting objectives.
- Strong written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Ability and desire to work within a tight knit, collaborative team.
- Energetic, flexible and proactive.
