About the Position:
This position reports to the Finance Director and is responsible for managing the local monthly P&L and Balance Sheet for an acquired company within the Specialty Program Group accounting center. Mange A/P and A/R, submit journal entries, perform balance sheet reconciliations and analysis and ensure compliance with GAAP and policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Execute month-end closing process by preparing journal entries and financial reports (P&L, trial balance, bank reconciliations, A/R reports)
- Manage payment processing
- Receive and verify payment information, including EFTs, wire transfers, and checks
- Accurately apply payments to customer accounts, invoices, or other relevant financial records
- Process claims, ensuring accurate and timely payments
- Manage payables owed to insurance carriers
- Reconcile carrier/broker differences in payments
- Manage A/R and collections for overdue payments
- Manage the premium audit processes by reviewing documentation and ensuring accurate and compliant financial records
- Regularly reconcile bank statements with payment records and general ledger to ensure accuracy and identify any discrepancies
- Create and file weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual Surplus Lines tax reports for each state
- Perform balance sheet account reconciliations accurately and in accordance with company requirements
- Oversee various monthly accrual, true-up, settlement, bad debt calculations
- Demonstrate solid understanding of accounting principles, financial statements, and payment processing procedures
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
- CPA or pursuing CPA completion preferred
- Requires at least 5 years of experience in the accounting field
- Prefer at least 2 years team leadership experience
- Strong organization and record-keeping skills to maintain accurate and organized financial records
- Insurance experience a plus
- Proficiency with accounting software, payment processing platforms, and electronic banking systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced Excel skills required
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure to achieve deadlines
- High degree of accuracy with attention to detail
- Self-motivated and proactive
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and achieve results in a fast-paced and changing environment
- Must have flexibility of work hours and the ability to put in extra hours during peak times
