TeacherActive is proud to be working with a nurturing and inclusive primary school in Quinton, Birmingham, currently seeking a dedicated and empathetic SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child in Reception with autism.

This full-time maternity cover role begins September 2025 and will continue until July 2026, with the potential to continue further for the right Teaching Assistant. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to support a child s development during their crucial early years.

About the Role:
  • Provide individualised 1:1 support to a Reception-aged child with autism, helping them access learning and daily routines.

  • Work alongside the class teacher and SENCO to implement and adapt individual education plans (IEPs).

  • Use a range of strategies including visual supports and sensory tools to support engagement, communication, and regulation.

  • Encourage confidence, independence, and social interaction in the classroom and throughout the school day.

  • Track and record the child s progress, offering insights to the wider team and contributing to ongoing support planning.

About You:

We re looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience supporting children with autism or other special educational needs ideally in EYFS or Key Stage 1.

  • Brings a calm, nurturing, and proactive approach to 1:1 support.

  • Holds a relevant qualification such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant or an equivalent childcare/SEND qualification.

  • Communicates effectively with children, staff, and parents, and works well within a team.

  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all pupils.

  • Is reliable, enthusiastic, and ready to make a lasting impact.
