Security Specialist III What you'll do
We have an immediate opening for a qualified Security Specialist III who will support the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) at the FCC Headquarters in Washington DC. Day to day you'll
• Adjudicate government background investigations for Employment Suitability decisions for Low, Medium, and High-Risk positions, along with recommending approval or denial of Secret and Top-Secret security clearances. Prepare and submit security packages to the CIA for Sensitive Compartmentalized Information (SCI) requests.
• Review returned security forms for accuracy with necessary follow-up for corrections/clarifications/additions and/or contacting individuals who have not returned their security forms in a timely manner.
• Fingerprint individuals as necessary.
• Handle telephone inquiries from subjects of investigations and/or investigative agencies and deal with other telephone inquiries as necessary.
• Provide preliminary review of security investigation materials, as directed.
• Maintain electronic and paper database records of all office, private offices, dedicated, locked workspaces. Also, responsible for all aspects of the access control system and distribute private offices under established procedures.
• Distribute FCC parking garage after-hours parking permits under established procedures.
• Handle customer walk-ins and telephone inquiries regarding security issues.
• Lock/Unlock doors as necessary.
• Handle and process classified and sensitive unclassified documents, to include inventory, accountability, dissemination, and destruction.
• Organize and maintain office keys and distribute keys under established procedures.
• Perform additional security duties as required to meet the SOC's operational needs, including, but not limited to attending meetings, providing information to internal and external requests, conducting security-related research, conducting personnel interviews, and information gathering and exchange via telephone, internet, and mail.
• Supervisory and administrative responsibilities over all other SOC Team Security Specialists. When absent the Deputy/Secondary Security Specialist III shall assume these duties and responsibility. What you'll bring to the team
Education
• Must have at least a high school diploma or its state-recognized equivalent.
• Must be as U.S. Citizenship and eligible for a Top Secret (TS) Security Clearance with Sensitive Compartmentalized Information (SCI) eligibility. Work Experience
• Must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the area of personnel security with emphasis on personnel security and specific experience in the areas of Risk Designation and Position Sensitivity Classification. Qualifications
• Must be proficient in the MS suite of office automation software (Word, Access, and Excel).
• Must have a demonstrated and thorough working knowledge of current Risk Designation and Position Sensitivity Classification and Adjudicative Guidelines for both National Security and Public Trust positions security policy and procedures.
• Must demonstrate interpersonal communications skills and customer service experience, and the ability to perform general administrative management tasks as needed to support the FCC SOC.
