LTS is seeking an experienced Security Engineer Senior to support a program within the Department of Commerce. This role is critical in the design, implementation, and maintenance of security solutions, policies, standards, and procedures that safeguard the department's information systems and networks. The Senior Security Engineer will leverage advanced technical knowledge in cybersecurity to develop solutions for complex challenges, ensuring the department's systems are resilient to cyber threats. This position involves working on high-level security engineering tasks, providing recommendations for system improvements, and ensuring the implementation of best practices to mitigate risks. This position is on-site in Washington D.C

Responsibilities:
  • Provides subject matter expertise for cyber security and trusted system technology.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for the development and implementation of security solutions and strategies, including risk assessments and threat mitigation plans.
  • Develop the design and implementation of new security solutions, and maintenance of policies, standards, baselines, guidelines and procedures.
  • Develop recommendations for proposed system improvements and design changes.
  • Apply advanced technical knowledge and analysis of specialized functional areas in task requirements to develop solutions to complex problems.
  • Research, write, review, disposition feedback and finalizes recommendations regarding network topology, security engineering and secure configuration settings, policies, standards and best practices.
  • Contribute and develop analysis of risk findings and other complex problems and provides expert technical guidance for mitigation strategies, including implementation advice.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, including IT and compliance teams, to implement security measures and technologies that support department-wide security objectives.

Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in cybersecurity or a related field is required.
  • Must be a U.S citizen.
  • Relevant network engineer certification and/or industry standard certifications (e.g CompTIA Security , CISSP, CISM, CISA or equivalent) is required
  • Proven experience developing and implementing security solutions, policies, and best practices in a large or complex IT environment.
  • Hands-on experience with security technologies, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), SIEM tools, encryption technologies, and endpoint protection systems.
  • Expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining secure networks, systems, and architectures.
  • In-depth understanding of network security, system security, and secure software development practices.
  • Proficiency in cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST, FISMA, and ISO 27001.
  • Strong experience with risk management, vulnerability assessment, and threat mitigation strategies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear, concise reports and messages to all levels of management.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities, with a strong capacity to work independently with minimal supervision or guidance.
  • Strong analytical abilities and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design effective solutions for complex challenges.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to work independently on important initiatives while ensuring optimal outcomes.
