RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and review SEC filings, including 10-Ks, 10-Qs, and 8-Ks, ensuring accuracy, compliance with U.S. GAAP, and timely submission.
- Build and validate supporting schedules and disclosure materials to accompany filings, providing clear documentation for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate key milestones and deliverables related to the quarterly earnings release, working closely with accounting, finance, and investor relations teams.
- Support reporting requirements unique to the entertainment industry, including content capitalization and amortization under ASC 926 and ASC 920.
- Research and interpret technical accounting guidance, including recent changes to U.S. GAAP, and assess how they impact current reporting obligations.
- Partner with studio finance, production accounting, and legal teams to analyze licensing, distribution, and participation agreements for proper financial treatment.
- Evaluate current reporting workflows and recommend practical process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Prepare disclosures and financial statement footnotes related to content assets, deferred production costs, and revenue from multi-platform media distribution.
- Act as a strategic liaison between accounting, finance, and external audit teams to resolve complex reporting issues and ensure consistent communication and alignment of objectives.
- Maintain the highest levels of confidentiality and data integrity throughout the reporting cycle, safeguarding sensitive financial information and ensuring compliance with internal controls.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of accounting experience; at least 3 recent years in SEC compilation and reporting or technical accounting, ideally with exposure to entertainment industry standards (e.g., ASC 926, ASC 920).
- Big 4 CPA alum preferred, with experience supporting media, entertainment, or content-driven clients.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP, including recently issued accounting pronouncements and their application to entertainment-related revenue recognition and content costs.
- BA degree in accounting or finance, with familiarity or coursework in media or entertainment finance considered a plus.
- High attention to detail with a willingness to review and research data, especially in high-volume, multi-entity environments common in entertainment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to collaborate across production, legal, and finance teams.
- A roll-up your sleeves approach to accomplish all necessary tasks, including hands-on support for content accounting and audit preparation.
- Customer service orientation and ability to manage upwards, especially when interfacing with studio executives, production stakeholders, and external auditors.
- High emotional intelligence with an ability to show empathy to all relevant stakeholders, including creatives, finance professionals, and third-party partners.
