Position Summary
Reporting to the parks and recreation outreach supervisor, the parks and recreation outreach specialist is primarily responsible for engaging with residents and educating them on such things as programs, events and park rules. They also provide program management and event coordination assistance. The person in this role enjoys delivering a high-level of customer service and is able to build relationships with a wide variety of people.
We are looking to fill a couple summer Seasonal Parks and Recreation Outreach Specialist.
Examples of Duties
  • Meet with residents, formally and informally, to increase participation in programs and events and to communicate park rules.
  • Assist supervisor with coordinating with other organizations and offer initiatives that speak to the needs and interests of residents.
  • As assigned, help organize and/or facilitate formal and informal meetings, workshops, open houses and focus groups.
  • Check and monitor indoor/outdoor rentals, basketball courts, and athletic fields for improper use or disturbances.
  • Conduct data collection, needs assessments and performance evaluation to assist in program evaluation.
  • File and organize photos, audio and video of neighborhood engagement, events and/or efforts in an appropriate location.
  • Develop, promote, and maintain a wide range of volunteer opportunities within the organization. Supervise volunteers as needed.
  • Help set up and execute events and programs.
  • Complete reports as assigned.
  • Assist with the distribution of print communications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in recreation, community outreach, or related field or one years' equivalent experience in a community engagement or event planning.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of individuals and communities.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and some holidays.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license upon employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in recreation, community outreach, or related field or three years' equivalent experience in a community engagement or event planning.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new software applications as they apply to web or email distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with computer graphics and related publishing tools.
  • Experience in event planning.
  • Proficiency in a language other than English is a plus.

Physical Abilities: This position involves some evening, weekend and holiday work.
