The
St. Croix Watershed Research Station Research Library & Digital Archive Intern is an entry-level learning opportunity for undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Library Science, Library and Information Science, or a related field. This paid internship offers hands-on experience in cataloging, classification, digital archiving, and library database management, providing valuable professional development in an academic research setting. Interns will contribute to the organization and accessibility of the St. Croix Watershed Research Station's J.W.G. Dunn Research Library, gaining practical skills in collection management, metadata creation, and information organization. This is a seasonal summer position, ideal for students seeking to apply their coursework in a real-world environment while supporting a research library.
This position is located at the St. Croix Watershed Research Station in the city of Marine on St. Croix, MN - 30 miles northeast of the Twin Cities.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - Key accountabilities include but are not limited to:
- Accurately catalog research library books, assign catalog numbers to new acquisitions, and update library records to ensure proper classification and accessibility.
- Use the Library of Congress and other classification systems to keep materials systematically arranged, reshelve returned books in call number order, and reorganize stacks for improved accessibility
- Assist in creating or refining a streamlined library cataloging to enhance efficiency and ease of use for staff and guests.
- Help develop or maintain a digital archive of library materials by creating detailed records, metadata, and searchable entries to enhance long-term accessibility.
- Track and document library material usage to assess collection needs and optimize accessibility.
- Promote the research library through social media or other outreach efforts to highlight its resources and importance.
- Assist with general office and programmatic duties and maintain a clean, organized, and functional library and office space.
- Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONSEducation: - Completed some college coursework in a Library Sciences, Library and Information Sciences, or other related field.
- Relevant work experience may be considered in place of coursework at the discretion of the hiring manager.
Required Experience and Proficiencies: - Ability to prioritize and organize job responsibilities, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and on time.
- Proficiency in MS Office with the ability to quickly adapt to new software and digital tools as needed.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with staff and visitors and provide clear documentation of library resources.
- Strong organizational skills and experience with detail-oriented work to maintain precise records and efficient workflows for cataloging and archival projects.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, and 10 pounds overhead for shelving, reorganizing stacks, and general upkeep of library materials.
- Preferred: Candidates with prior familiarity with digital cataloging systems and/or library databases is preferred.
Certifications: Valid driver's license
Work Environment: Typical open office and desk setting within the library space. Library uses standard rolling library stacks.
Starting Compensation: $17.00 - $17.33/hour (depending on qualifications; compensation grade 2)
