Scientist/Senior Scientist, Analytical Chemist

JLSa2 is a new and recently launched seed-stage venture backed company, located in South San Francisco. JLSa2 is focused upon developing novel multifunctional protein-drug conjugate therapies to address human metabolic diseases and other non-oncology related diseases.

The company is seeking a Scientist/Senior Scientist to contribute to the analytical activities of characterizing biophysical properties of these multifunctional conjugates as well as contribute to multiple aspects of product development as molecules progress from research stage to early clinical development.

Responsibilities:

The candidate will contribute to characterization of proteins, peptides, and conjugates, including any changes after exposure to biological matrices. The candidate will work in a highly collaborative team with the conjugation and functional assays teams, as well as senior leadership, to ensure data integration across functional areas for rapid decision making and product iteration cycle time. This position is expected to be on site at our SSF facility.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or related scientific field and 3+ years of industry experience in the characterization of biologics, biologic conjugates or peptides is required OR
  • BS/MS in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or related scientific field and 5+ years of industry experience in the characterization of biologics, biologic conjugates or peptides is required.
  • Requires a background in liquid chromatography assays such as RP-HPLC, SEC, CEX, HIC.
  • Develop and run analytical methods (LCMS, capillary electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE, and high throughput sample management) for biologics characterization, quantitation in biological matrices, metabolite identification, and impurity profiling.
  • Hands on experience performing metabolic stability and metabolite ID studies using LC-MS/MS. Sample preparation and bioanalysis of preclinical in vitro and vivo ADME/PK studies.
  • Support candidate selection by developing and driving DMPK strategies for lead optimization and solving ADME-related issues.
  • Experience with Chromeleon, MassHunter, or MassLynx is a plus.
  • Experience with standard conjugation chemistries is a plus.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in both hands-on analytical work and management activities.
  • Has experience reviewing, organizing, and presenting analytical data.
  • Flexibility to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced start up environment is essential.
  • Good communication skills are essential.

Salary Range: $125,000 to $160,000 (Compensation and level will be commensurate with experience and expertise and could fall outside of the stated range)
