Company Overview

A cutting-edge biotechnology startup dedicated to improving targeted delivery of complex therapeutics is seeking a Mass Spectrometry Scientist to advance its analytical capabilities. The organization is building a versatile therapeutic platform backed by deep scientific expertise and aims to address delivery challenges for biologics. The company values collaboration, innovation, and scientific precision.

Role Summary

The Mass Spectrometry Scientist will lead and support analytical workflows to characterize bioconjugates, antibody- and peptide-based therapeutics, and oligonucleotides. This role will be instrumental in assessing molecular integrity, conjugation efficiency, and pharmacokinetics. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally and play a key role in establishing internal mass spectrometry infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct LC-MS/MS analyses to confirm intact protein masses and evaluate drug-to-antibody ratios (DAR)
  • Support and interpret bottom-up peptide mapping in collaboration with protein engineering and chemistry teams
  • Analyze plasma and tissue samples for bioanalytical PK studies involving peptides and oligonucleotides
  • Develop and refine data processing pipelines to ensure analytical consistency and reproducibility
  • Manage external collaborations with CROs and instrumentation partners for method execution and data delivery
  • Contribute to planning and execution of internal mass spectrometry setup, including instrumentation and SOP development
  • Collaborate with internal R&D and CMC teams to drive data-driven decision-making across programs

Basic Qualifications

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related discipline
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in mass spectrometry, particularly within biologics or conjugates
  • Strong hands-on experience in LC-MS/MS for intact mass analysis, peptide mapping, and PK quantification
  • Understanding of conjugation chemistries and their analytical implications
  • Ability to manage external partners and maintain timelines in fast-paced settings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with mass spec-based analysis of oligonucleotides and peptides in biological matrices
  • Background in bioconjugation, protein engineering, or synthetic chemistry
  • Proficiency with analysis tools such as Xcalibur, MassLynx, or Skyline
  • Familiarity with assay development for early-stage CMC and non-GLP regulatory environments
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, startup environment with shifting priorities and high accountability
