Summary

The SAP Basis Manager will lead a team of SAP Basis Administrators responsible for maintaining and optimizing the organization's SAP landscape, hosted in a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) cloud environment. This role combines technical expertise in SAP Basis operations with strong leadership capabilities to ensure the team delivers reliable, high-performing, and secure SAP services. Additionally, the SAP Basis Manager will negotiate and maintain relationships with external vendors, ensuring service-level agreements (SLAs) are met and vendor services align with business objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Leadership and Team Management:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of SAP Basis Administrators, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
    • Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular performance reviews, and provide guidance for career development.
    • Manage team workload, ensuring efficient resource allocation for operational tasks and project support.
  • Strategic Planning and Oversight:
o Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for SAP Basis operations, focusing on reliability, scalability, and cloud adoption best practices.

o Collaborate with IT leadership and business stakeholders to align SAP system performance with organizational objectives.

o Drive process automation, system optimization, and cost-efficiency initiatives in the cloud-hosted SAP environment.
  • Vendor Management and Negotiation:
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with external vendors, cloud providers, and SAP support teams.
    • Negotiate contracts, service-level agreements (SLAs), and pricing with vendors to ensure optimal service and cost efficiency.
    • Monitor vendor performance and address any service issues or non-compliance with contractual agreements.
  • System Administration and Support Oversight:
    • Oversee the installation, configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of SAP systems in a PaaS cloud environment (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP).
    • Ensure timely upgrades, patches, and maintenance of SAP systems to maintain system health and compliance.
    • Serve as the escalation point for critical incidents, providing guidance and support to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Security and Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with organizational and industry standards (e.g., SOC 2, ISO 27001) across the SAP landscape.
    • Oversee the implementation of robust security measures, including access controls, encryption, and audit processes.
  • Project Management and Collaboration:
    • Lead or support SAP-related projects, including migrations, cloud optimizations, and new module deployments.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including functional consultants, infrastructure teams, and external vendors, to ensure seamless SAP operations.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Ensure the creation and maintenance of detailed documentation for SAP system architecture, processes, and operational procedures.
    • Provide regular status updates and reports to senior leadership on SAP system health, team performance, and project progress.
Qualifications

Leadership Skills:

o Proven experience managing and developing technical teams, with a focus on collaboration and performance improvement.

o Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Technical Skills:

o Expertise in SAP Basis administration, including experience with cloud-hosted SAP systems (S/4HANA, SAP BTP, etc.).

o Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-native tools for monitoring, automation, and resource management.

o Strong understanding of SAP HANA databases, SAP security concepts, and performance optimization techniques.

o Knowledge of ITIL best practices for service delivery and incident management.

Vendor Management Skills:

o Demonstrated ability to negotiate contracts and manage relationships with external vendors.

o Experience ensuring vendor compliance with SLAs and addressing performance issues effectively.

Preferred Skills:

o Experience with cloud migration projects and hybrid SAP landscapes.

o SAP certifications (e.g., SAP Certified Technology Professional - System Management).

o Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator).

Education and/or Experience

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar area of study. Equivalent experience may be considered.
Experience
  • 7+ years of SAP Basis administration experience, including 3+ years in a leadership or management role.
  • Demonstrated success managing SAP operations in a cloud-hosted environment.
  • Proven experience negotiating and managing vendor relationships, including cloud providers and SAP support.
