Position: Safety Specialist

Location: San Antonio TX - travel required weekly


EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • 8-12 years of work-related experience
  • Certifications - CSP, SMS, ASP, CHST, STS, OHST, CSHO, STS-C, CIT, GSP, TSP, RSO - preferred
  • Hazwoper Facilitator
  • Confined Space Trained
  • Competent in providing training for Powered Industrial Trucks, Aerial Platforms, and Fall Protection.


Day to Day:

  • Oversees behavior-based safety.
  • Assists field operations in health and safety program implementation and guidance.
  • Understands the functions of an Emergency Response Team (ERT) and can provide participation and guidance in the functions of an Incident Command Structure (ICS).
  • Analyzes and develops safety statistical data as requested by field operations.
  • Orders suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health or safety by utilizing Stop Work Authority.
  • Ability to collect samples of liquids, dust, gases, vapors, or other potentially toxic materials for analysis.
  • Promotes safety-conscious work performance and provides safety performance measures and training programs.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of government safety regulations.
  • Works directly with government agencies and trade organizations to provide technical expertise in matters pertaining to Health and Safety policy, regulations and practices.
  • Identifies EHS staffing requirements and makes personnel recommendations to management.
  • Identifies training gaps for both operations and EHS personnel.
  • Works with operations and maintenance on a daily basis to ensure consistent application of EHS initiatives.
  • Mentors and trains less experienced Health and Safety Representatives and contractors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate basic computer knowledge through effective use of a personal computer including Microsoft Office applications. Able to learn company specific applications.
  • Able to effectively manage time and prioritize projects in order to meet established deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Able to work effectively with all levels of co-workers, clients, and other external contacts.
  • Able to effectively abide company policies, procedures, and technology.
  • Able to function independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team.
