Hourly Pay: Per the AVPE Agreement

School Safety Specialists will receive one additional dollar ($1.00) above the base hourly rate of pay.

JOB SUMMARY: Monitor/supervise student activity in building including but not limited to athletic locker rooms, hallways, entry points, restrooms, cafeteria, media center, and parking lot.

QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma, relate to students and adults in a positive manner, successful experience working with groups of middle and high school aged students, basic computer skills are required. The candidate will possess current certification in Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) or enroll to gain certification provided by the Avondale School District. Knowledge of research based trauma informed practices.

JOB GOAL: The School Safety Specialist is responsible for maintaining a safe and positive school environment by monitoring student activity throughout the building including the interior and exterior portions of the building.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed de-escalation research based practices
  • Ability to implement approved CPI practices when addressing a situation in need of intervention
  • Greet guests/visitors in a positive manner; assist them with conducting school business
  • Regular, reliable and punctual attendance is an essential function of the job
  • Monitor the building to be certain all students have a pass if out of the classroom during instructional time.
  • Monitor student behavior throughout the building
  • Maintain closed campus policy
  • Supervise students boarding buses
  • Monitor student behavior in lunch room
  • Monitor student behavior on the playground (elementary placement)
  • Monitor students exiting the building to parking lot to insure student safety
  • Other duties as assigned
