Title: Rugged Technician - Level III
Location: DFW area and willing to travel (first project located in Allen)
Pay Rate: $33- 35/HR

GTS is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Level 3 Rugged Technician to lead and execute complex rugged technology deployments in vehicle environments. This role is responsible for overseeing and performing advanced installations of in-vehicle technology such as tablet docks, radio systems, Cradlepoint routers, network switches, antennas, and structured cabling. As a senior-level technician, you will also support project planning, field mentorship, and quality assurance across all rugged deployment efforts.
The ideal candidate has extensive hands-on experience with mobile technology installations, an expert-level understanding of vehicle power and networking systems, and the ability to troubleshoot, resolve, and lead in-field challenges with confidence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning and execution of advanced rugged installations, including hardware mounting and structured cabling in diverse vehicle types (e.g., Dodge, Ford, admin and service fleets).
- Install and configure high-level AV and networking equipment, including tablet docks, head units, antennas, switches, 5G modems, and Cradlepoint routers.
- Perform complex cable runs, power integration, and component testing with expert attention to detail and compliance with GTS quality standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve power, connectivity, and hardware issues independently; escalate only when necessary.
- Ensure proper configuration of networking equipment, including adding devices to NetCloud groups and verifying connectivity and SIM functionality.
- Remove and replace legacy systems, including routers, antennas, and head units, while minimizing disruption to other vehicle systems.
- Conduct post-install quality control reviews, complete GTS Quality Check forms, and ensure all equipment is fully functional and documented.
- Mentor junior technicians (Level 1 and Level 2) on best practices, install techniques, and troubleshooting methods.
- Act as an in-field liaison with customers or stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and securing post-installation sign-off.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-compliant worksite and vehicle environment throughout the duration of the project.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in rugged or in-vehicle technology installations, preferably in government, public safety, or enterprise fleet environments.
- Expert-level knowledge of Cradlepoint routers, NetCloud management, and 5G network integration.
- Extensive experience with cable management and power systems in mobile environments.
- Advanced proficiency in using hand and power tools, multimeters, and network diagnostic tools.
- Strong familiarity with vehicle electrical systems, structured cabling, antenna placement, and radio components.
- Valid driver's license and flexibility to travel between job sites or work extended hours during large rollouts.
- Ability to lead technical efforts on-site and document all work accurately.
- Willingness to cross-train in and support the Audio-Visual (AV) side of the business, including learning AV installation processes and equipment.
- This is a long-term role with the intention of becoming a full-time position for the right candidate who shows commitment, quality, and reliability.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Cradlepoint Certified Network Associate (CNA) or Professional-level certification.
- Prior experience overseeing installation teams or coordinating large-scale fleet deployments.
- Knowledge of mobile command vehicle builds, first responder tech platforms, and ruggedized IT systems.
