Job Description:
A leading international research organization in the automotive and mobility space is conducting advanced research in the marine environment and automated vessel domain. They are seeking a Motion Planning Engineer with expertise in motion planning, advanced controls, reference trajectory generation, machine learning, and robotics engineering.
In this role, you'll focus on vessel trajectory planning, control systems, and collaborate closely with AI and robotics experts as well as academic research partners. You'll be involved in both research and real-world trials, contributing to innovative marine robotics solutions.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research in marine robotics with an emphasis on motion planning, control systems, reference path generation, and system modeling
- Stay up to date on the latest theories and algorithms in perception and planning, including MPC, MPPI, and related methodologies
- Assist in technical documentation including research papers, presentation slides, and tech transfer documentation
- Develop software for early-stage prototypes and proof-of-concept systems using ROS I/II, Python, and C
- Perform simulation and target testing for developed systems
- Contribute to brainstorming and ideation sessions for mobility and robotics applications
- Participate in collaborative projects with industry, government, and academic institutions related to autonomous marine systems
Required Skillset
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in robotics software development (Python, MATLAB, C/C )
- Proven experience in motion planning, reference trajectory generation, and control systems
- Strong understanding of robotics system modeling and planning algorithms
- Experience with machine learning concepts and AI-driven methodologies
- Demonstrated ability to tackle loosely defined problems with innovative solutions
- Master's or PhD (preferred) in Robotics Engineering, Naval Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or related field
Bonus Skillset
- Familiarity with marine robotics or USV (Unmanned Surface Vessel) applications
- Experience with perception and tracking algorithms
- Knowledge of localization methods and control actuators
- Proficient in Unix/Linux environments
- Experience with Observer Models and generative AI applications
