Tesla is on a path to build humanoid robots at scale to automate repetitive and boring tasks. Core to the Optimus, the motion planning stack presents a unique opportunity to work on state-of-the-art motion planning algorithms, culminating in their deployment to real world production applications. Our Motion Planning Software Engineers develop and own this stack from inception to deployment.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the evaluation and integration of different motion capture technologies
  • Develop algorithms that enable human operators to have intuitive control of Optimus
  • Experience in algorithm design that focuses on capturing human intent and/or deals with interaction forces between a robot and its environment
  • Identify and reduce latency bottlenecks in the teleoperation software/hardware stack
  • Collaborate with a team of exceptional individuals laser focused on making the control of Optimus as intuitive as possible
Requirements
  • Production-quality, modern C (17 or greater)
  • Robotics fundamentals, including geometry, linear algebra, multivariate calculus, kinematics, dynamics, probability, and statistics
  • Experience working with robotic systems. Bonus points for high degree of freedom (DOF) robotic systems with redundant DOFs and multiple control objectives
  • Experience implementing control strategies including impedance control, adaptive control, force control, MPC on hardware
  • Familiarity with at least one robotics library (pinoccio, drake, moveit) and one optimization library (ceres, nlopt, IPOPT) or similar
  • Nice to have: Familiarity with Machine learning or Reinforcement Learning techniques and relevant libraries (pytorch, keras, tensorflow)
  • Background in Computer Science/Engineering, Robotics, Physics, similar field(s) of study, or equivalent practical knowledge

      $120,000 - $360,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
