Job Summary In keeping with our organization's goal of improving the lives of the Residents we serve, the RN Staff Educator/Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) plays a critical role in providing superior customer service and nursing services to all Residents in the facility. The primary purpose of the position is to plan, organize, develop, and direct all staff development educational programs throughout the facility in accordance with current applicaple federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. The RN Staff Educator/ADON is responsible for providing learning opportunities that will enable all employees to gain knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to perform their assigned duties safely and effectively.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities - Maintains accurate, complete, and up-to-date records of general orientation program and on-going staff development programs for all personnel.
- Plans, coordinates, and conducts education, infection control, quality assurance and admission screening functions as assigned.
- Implements nursing policies and procedures that reflect facility mission and philosophy.
- Works Closely with department heads, assessing the on-going learning needs of employees in order to meet the needs of the residents, the organization, and the employees.
- Utilizes resources in an efficient and economic manner to ensure that each resident achieves the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.
- Teaches the course classroom and clinical lessons under the supervision of the DON.
- Responsible for making rounds on unit to supervise, observe, examine, interview residents, evaluate staffing needs, monitor regulatory compliance, to achieve the care environment and to evaluate staff interactions and clinical skills competency.
- Assists DON with preparation for Department of Health Survey.
Required Skills & Qualifications - Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Active RN License in the State of Pennsylvania.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience as a professional nurse in a long-term care setting.
- Previous Unit Manager, Staff Educator, or ADON experience required.
- Possess a working knowledge and ability to apply standards of professional nursing practice in job situations.
- Ability to develop nursing policies and procedures that reflect current clinical practice, professional standards, and facility philosophy of care.
- Ability to organize and communicate with large groups effectively. Ablity to develop training materials and presentations.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply current principles of infection control to facility and resident specific situations.
- Knowledge of MDS and Care Planning Process.
- Current knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations that apply to practice of nursing in long term care.
