Responsibilities
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Administers medications within the scope of practice and hospital policies.
- Assesses, evaluates, interprets, and documents patients' physical and mental status.
- Establishes rapport with patients and significant others to understand care requirements and resolves patient problems through multidisciplinary teams.
- Promotes patient independence by establishing care goals; teaching patients and families about conditions, medications, and self-care; answering questions.
- Ensures quality of care by adhering to standards, measuring outcomes, and making necessary adjustments.
- Maintains a safe and clean environment by complying with procedures and protocols.
- Protects patient confidentiality and maintains continuity through documentation.
- Maintains professional knowledge through ongoing education and participation in professional societies.
- Completes annual competency and regulatory education.
- Contributes to team efforts, measured by patient satisfaction metrics like Press Ganey/HCAPS, AIDET, and Model of Care.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Thorough knowledge of medical equipment.
- Excellent communication and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to administer medications per policy.
- Ability to interpret lab and diagnostic results.
- Ability to communicate effectively using SBAR.
- Ability to multitask.
- Courteous, compassionate, and positive attitude.
- Clinical skills including bedside manner, infection control, and medication administration.
- ED/ICU Requirement: ACLS; BLS for Med Surg areas.
Education:
- Bachelor's Nursing preferred; College Diploma Nursing required.
- Licensed Registered Nurse.
- Certified in CPR.

Confidentiality/HIPAA/Corporate Compliance: Demonstrates knowledge of procedures to protect and maintain the security, confidentiality, and integrity of all medical and organizational information, supporting Methodist Hospitals' compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
