Position Summary
This role involves administering patient care in an inpatient setting for patients with advanced illnesses or injuries, requiring timely, intense, and complex care to stabilize and support their medical conditions. These areas require a lower caregiver-to-patient ratio and highly trained team members with advanced skills.
Shift: Must be able to work every weekend, day shift, 12-hour shifts.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Assess patient needs and develop/revise individualized care plans based on patient responses. Evaluate progress toward expected outcomes.
- Respect diversity by building respectful relationships with all team members and patients.
- Act as a patient and family advocate.
- Provide care appropriate to the age of patients served, demonstrating necessary knowledge and skills.
- Serve as a preceptor, charge nurse, educator, or nurse clinician as needed.
- Communicate and collaborate with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams for effective care planning.
- Model professional behavior and support hospital and nursing goals.
- Understand growth and development principles, assess patient status, and interpret information to meet age-specific needs.
- Coordinate care and delegate tasks appropriately.
- Document patient care accurately, including assessments, education, medications, treatments, and safety measures.
- Demonstrate competency in nursing skills and equipment use.
- Prioritize patient care based on evidence-based standards.
- Identify and resolve problems effectively.
- Delegate tasks in accordance with patient needs and team member capabilities.
- Communicate patient condition and concerns to the healthcare team.
- Provide compassionate care in a therapeutic environment.
- Be aware of legal issues and patients' rights.
- Support new team members and students through collaboration with education and leadership teams.
- Maintain regular, punctual attendance per hospital policies and legal standards.
- Comply with all hospital policies and procedures.
- Contribute to improving healthcare quality and organizational outcomes.
- Participate and lead nursing practice and performance improvement committees.
- Engage in peer review, mentoring, and coaching.
- Use supplies efficiently and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
- Attend staff development, meetings, and committees.
- Partner with leadership to identify professional development needs.
- Take responsibility for ongoing professional development and education.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Training: Graduate of an approved nursing school. Meets all competency requirements for Baptist Health, Orlando Health, and the assigned unit/department.
Licensure/Certification: Maintain current Alabama RN license or valid multistate RN license. Maintain BLS/Healthcare Provider certification. ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC are required for specific areas. NRP is required for NICU.
