General Summary of Position Senior leader in charge of MedStar Surgery Center and oversees the direction and coordination of all functions of the surgery center. Accountable and responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the overall operations of a MedStar, free-standing, ambulatory surgery center. responsible for fiscal performance, daily operations of clinical and business office functions, credentialling, procurement, human resources, accreditation, inspection standards, capital equipment planning, customer satisfaction, and quality and safety within the surgery center that has: Single or narrow scope of surgical/procedural specialties (1-6 specialties); 2+ ORs or procedure rooms; highly efficient staffing model in which staff and leaders are cross-trained to perform multiple duties. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Surgery Center Operations & Management: Develops and deploys Surgery Center operating policies and procedures, including the establishment of scheduling procedures, and assures appropriate implementation.Surgery Center Operations & Management: Responsible for clinical and administrative personnel management, which includes recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and retention of employees.Surgery Center Operations & Management: Responsible for fostering an environment that promotes staff growth and development.Surgery Center Operations & Management: Responsible for the financial performance of the Surgery Center. Coordinates and oversees the preparation of the annual and five-year operating and capital budgets.Surgery Center Operations & Management: Develops and oversees the implementation of an information systems plan for the Surgery Center and ensures the maintenance of the information systems relevant to the functions of the Surgery Center.Surgery Center Operations & Management: Coordinates and supports the efforts of MedStar Managed Care Contracting staff to ensure that the Surgery Center appropriately participates in all third-party payor contracting.Surgery Center Operations & Management: Implementation and adherence to Surgery Center policies and procedures once approved by the Board of Directors.Surgery Center Strategic Planning & Program Development: Routinely reviews opportunities to add new surgery center procedures and expand surgery center volumes, market presence, and financial performance.Surgery Center Strategic Planning & Program Development: Works with finance to assess the financial impact of new services and procedures.Physician Credentials, Re-appointment, and Quality Oversight: Develops implements and maintains a physician credential and reappointment process that supports quality patient care, complies with accreditation standards, and is compatible with relevant MedStar processes.Physician Credentials, Re-appointment, and Quality Oversight: implementation of methods and systems for measuring and reporting patient satisfaction with MedStar's market research department.Physician Credentials, Re-appointment, and Quality Oversight: Coordinates the development and implementation of policies and procedures for measuring and assuring quality clinical services at the surgery center with MedStar's clinical quality and risk management leadership.Surgery Center Business Development and Marketing: Identifies and meets with surgeons that have the potential to utilize or increase their utilization of the surgery center.Surgery Center Business Development and Marketing: Ensures that routine connections are made with the key office staff of surgeons to determine opportunities to improve service and expand surgery center utilization.Surgery Center Business Development and Marketing: Serves as a liaison between the surgery center, the community, and other local healthcare providers.Regulatory Compliance and Facility Accreditation: Responsible for coordinating and directing efforts to ensure that the surgery center receives state and federal licensure, and AAAHC and/or JCAHO accreditation.Regulatory Compliance and Facility Accreditation: Ensures that the surgery center operates in compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agency guidelines on an ongoing basis.Board and System Reporting: Coordinates quarterly Board and Board Committee meetings and ensures the preparation and presentation of relevant materials for Board review and approval.Board and System Reporting: Develops and presents the surgery center continuous quality improvement plan to the Board of Directors. The Administrator ensures its implementation and reports its results quarterly to the Board of Directors.Board and System Reporting: Develops and presents appropriate operational and administrative policies for the Surgery Center Board of Directors approval. Board and System Reporting: Presents the operating and capital budgets to the Board of Directors for approval. Performs other duties and functions as assigned by the Surgery Center Board of Directors. Minimum Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Business, or Management required or field of study related to the facility's overall mission plus equivalent related experience. required Experience 3-4 years Related experience, preference for experience in a management position in the same a closely related field required Licenses and Certifications Must meet industry, state, and federal licensing requirements. required and RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure RN license required. required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of clinical and administrative operations of an ambulatory surgery center. Working knowledge of physician credentialing, medical staff privileges, and quality assurance in an ambulatory surgery center. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to directly promote the success of the center through direct contact with surgeons and the key office staff members. Working knowledge of budgeting, spreadsheets, and financial analysis of ambulatory surgery center operations. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Working knowledge of the standards and preparation required to meet accreditation standards of AAAHC and JCAHO for ambulatory surgery center operations. Familiarity with local/state/federal regulations regarding the operations of an ambulatory surgery center. Ability to organize effectively, follow through on projects and operate on personal initiative with limited direct supervision. This position has a hiring range of $118,331 - $230,172
