Restorative Support Instructor Job Description

Job Title: Restorative Support Instructor -Classified

Reports to: Building Principal

Education or Experience:

Preferred: 4 Year Degree

Minimum: 60 approved college credit hours and substitute teacher certification

Job Goal: Restorative practices can improve school climate and strengthen the social and emotional skills of students and adults. Instead of using exclusionary discipline, restorative approaches address the underlying reason for students' hurtful behavior and nurture their intrinsic desire to navigate conflict resolution, take ownership of their behavior, and practice empathy, perspective-taking, and forgiveness.

Job Description: The Restorative Support Instructor assists in supporting positive behavioral change in students by utilizing restorative practices and interventions for the purpose of promoting equitable student achievement. This position works with students, teachers, counselors, and school personnel to support the needs of students and to ensure access to classroom instruction while addressing student behavior needs.

Performance Responsibilities:
  • Provides teacher support by providing student supervision for students who have exhibited disruptive behaviors that interfere with teaching and learning in the classroom
  • Maintains confidentiality of information gained through the performance and location of the position
  • Works closely with all teachers for the success of the students
  • Maintains discipline and order
  • May confer with parents on the progress of students as directed by the supervisor
  • Utilizes data to determine need-based decisions
  • Conducts and documents student observations
  • Provides input for support/safety plans
  • Provides support to both school-based and district collaborative teams
  • Researches and remains current on trauma-informed practices and restorative practices in schools for the purpose of providing support and input to the school team
  • Helps to de-escalate student behaviors and get them back to their daily schedule.
  • Helps students who need more one-on-one help with classroom assignments, projects, and tests.
  • Supports students, who are assigned to the Restorative Resource room for exclusionary discipline
  • Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school's staff and students and complies with policy, procedures, regulations, and law
  • Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed by the Building Principal, and/ or Superintendent
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned

EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluations

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
  • Must exhibit excellent communication skills with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • Must be able to follow directives, as outlined.
  • Must exhibit initiative and leadership skills.
  • Must be punctual in all activities and responsibilities of the position.
  • Must adhere to all district policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to attend all supervision and school extracurricular activities outside the school day, as designated by the building principal.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 185 total days, current instructor salary schedule.
