OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY

The Tavern Kitchen Assistant assists the Tavern Assistant Restaurant Manager, Tavern Line Cook, and BOH instructors of American Bounty in the execution of all culinary, both savory and sweet, aspects of the Bounty while maintaining CIA standards. The Kitchen Assistant will expand their knowledge in multiple restaurant tasks, such as food preparation/cooking as well as line set-up assignment and inventory.

SHIFTS
  • Between Monday - Saturday, 9:30am to 6pm
ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Observes and assists in culinary production.
  • Completes opening and closing side work as assigned with the goal of contributing to an organized, well-prepared work environment.
  • Assists at ensuring that the line is maintained throughout the day; stocked, clean, and organized.
  • Assists at ensuring kitchen cleanliness throughout and at end of shift and all storage is clean, as well as equipment and work areas.
  • Assists other students as needed.
  • Demonstrate standards of proper food safety and sanitation.
  • Provides high quality customer service in a timely manner.
  • Communicates all pertinent information to the Tavern staff and Chef Instructors as necessary.
  • Assists at maintaining inventories of raw ingredients, sanitation supplies and production.
  • Assists at ensuring that equipment and machinery is properly used and maintained.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all faculty, staff, student and guest information.
  • Works cohesively with other department members as part of a team.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.
PREREQUISITES
  • Completed Culinary Fundamentals, or have six-months to one-year cooking experience in full-service restaurant, hotel or resort.
PREFERRED PRIOR EXPERIENCES
  • Background in a fine dining restaurant establishment.
  • Six-months to one-year cooking experience in full-service restaurant, hotel or resort.
SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND LEARNING OUTCOMES OF ASSIGNMENT
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and adhering to standards of operational excellence, safety, efficiency and educational goals set by the CIA.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with guests, students, and faculty/staff.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills.

Successful applicant must be able to perform all related functions of the assignment which may include working nights and weekends, ability to bend reach and stand for long periods of time, lifting and carrying of items up to fifty (50) pounds, and the ability to withstand high ambient temperatures.
