The Restaurant Host is a hospitality-minded individual with a personal and professional commitment to excellence and elevated service, and a consistent consideration for others.
As the first point of contact for guests the Host role is one of the most important, both property-wide and industry-wide. You exude professionalism and are inquisitive, resourceful, and thoughtful.
Strong candidates will have a growth mindset and be driven, proactive, anticipatory, and may be interested in developing into a leadership role. The Restaurant Host must be resourceful, thoughtful, considerate, and organized to best represent our dining outlets and culinary concepts.
Duties and Responsibilities - Graciously, politely, and confidently welcome guests and answer phones
- Be a liaison between resort departments, front desk, and restaurant managers
- Showcase The Allison Inn & Spa's dining options for guests
- Make accurate and complete reservations, and contact guests to confirm future reservations
- Expertly use OpenTable for guest and reservation management
- Direct guest inquiries, thoughtfully answer questions, and follow-up on guest requests that require research and further information
- Seat guests according to proper kitchen and dining room flow, and understand the strategic planning behind seating and table assigments
- Have knowledge and familiarity with our culinary and beverage menus, and a willingness to deepen expertise in these areas
- Be the first and primary point of contact for In Room Dining orders
- Manage coat check service, and keep this space clean and orderly
- Answer basic and general guest inquiries about services and onsite experiences in other divisions, such as The Spa
- Conduct effective and hospitable service to guests on the telephone, and provide accurate and thorough phone messages to restaurant leadership
- Other tasks will include completing side work, organizing and stocking the host desk, and serving as a liaison between restaurant managers and guests
- Keep a neat, groomed, professional appearance as per The Allison guidelines. Be in a proper, clean, well-maintained uniform at all times.
- Maintain sanitation and cleanliness per Jory and Oregon state health guidelines.
- Follow service guidelines through the complete meal service.
- Any additional duties assigned by management
Job Skills/Requirements/Qualifications - Required experience: 1 year in a restaurant or in customer service
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
- Experience with OpenTable, reservation systems, or hospitality software
- An enthusiastic, positive demeanor and desire to provide exceptional guest service
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to include weekends, evenings and holidays
- Willingness to work long hours, irregular shifts, weekends, holidays, and blackout days
- Adhere to The Allison Inn & Spa Food and Beverage grooming and appearance standards, or ability to adjust appearance accordingly
- Successfully pass a background investigation
- Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Possess an OLCC Service Permit
- Possess a Food Handlers Permit within 30 days of hire
Working conditions/Physical Requirements - Standing, walking, bending, reaching, and kneeling for extended periods of time up to eight (8) hours per shift.
- Must be able to navigate stairs and uneven surfaces.
- Ability to reach shelves overhead, carry menus, supplies, and work at a quick pace.
- Use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble very small objects.
- Focus on one source of sound and ignore others.
- Use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to effectively communicate with all team members by speaking clearly so listeners can understand, as well as understand the speech of another person.
