Job Summary: The Restaurant Assistant Manager leads and behaves according to company values. This role involves leading and developing people to execute outstanding product quality and customer service, building sales, and controlling costs for each shift. Assistant Managers must exercise sound judgment and discretion when supervising employees and resolving customer issues. All decisions must align with operating policies and procedures.

What You'll Do: - Train, coach, and develop Potbelly Associates and Shift Leaders.
- Formally evaluate Associate and Shift Leader performance, including completing and signing off on appraisals.
- Conduct weekly feedback sessions with Associates, Certified Trainers, and Shift Leaders.
- Know, enforce, and educate Associates, Certified Trainers, and Shift Leaders on all work rules, personnel policies, labor laws, and security and safety procedures.
- Effectively recommend and/or implement appropriate corrective action.
- Encourage the hiring and retention of Associates, Certified Trainers, and Shift Leaders.
- Execute a plan to decrease turnover and improve Associates' job satisfaction.
- Effectively schedule Associates, Certified Trainers, and Shift Leaders.
- Update the communication board with critical shop information.
- Hold monthly meetings with Associates, Certified Trainers, and Shift Leaders.
- Develop the musician schedule.
- Make customers really happy.
- Effectively handle customer complaints.
- Maintain critical standards for raw and finished product quality, service speed and quality, cleanliness, and sanitation.
- Ensure a clean and sanitary environment by assigning daily cleaning duties and conducting weekly follow-ups.
- Properly execute, enforce, and manage all food safety requirements and practices.
- Enforce and maintain the uniform policy.
- Manage the back-of-the-house to ensure standards are met.
- Ensure shop security and safety by executing procedures properly.
- Effectively drive neighborhood shop marketing and promotions to maximize sales potential, including sourcing and blitzing outside the shop for recruiting and marketing purposes.
- Control assigned P&L line items.
- Manage food components, labor, waste, and cash across shifts.
- Count drawers and ensure proper cash handling procedures are followed.
- Responsible for the weekly update of the daily prep sheet.
- Maintain all food parts and appropriate inventory and place shop orders (from SMS, data source, etc.).
What You'll Need: - High School diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree preferred.
- 2 years of management experience in a restaurant or retail environment.
- Willingness to be trained and pass a Food Safety Certification course.
- Strong customer service, communication, and business acumen skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Physical Demands: Able to withstand long alternating periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Tolerance to cold and hot temperatures, high noise levels, and potential allergens.
