Job Summary


Position responsible for administering basic and advanced therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, including arterial blood gases, neonatal procedures, trauma care and ventilator transports, to patients with respiratory disorders, including patients in adult and neonatal critical care units. Function as a resource to RCP I. Participates and leads advanced patient education. Be actively involved in departmental quality program.Job Description
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate of a CoArc accredited School of Respiratory Care; Bachelors preferred


Licenses/Certifications:


Pediatric Transport RT:

  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT). Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred.
  • Current Respiratory Care Practitioner License or Temporary Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred
  • Required to obtain within 18 months of hire: Neonatal/Pediatric Specialty (NPS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Certification in Neonatal Pediatric Transport (C-NPT)

Neonatal Transport RT:

  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT). Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred.
  • Current Respiratory Care Practitioner License or Temporary Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required; Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred
  • Required to obtain within 18 months of hire: Neonatal/Pediatric Specialty (NPS), Certification in Neonatal Pediatric Transport (C-NPT)

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • RCP III = 3-10 years
  • RCP IV = 10+ years
  • Minimum (3) years experience as a Respiratory Therapist in a Pediatric ICU, will consider applicants with minimum of 3 years experience in Level 1 Emergency Department
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Maintains current state of physical and mental well being
  • Able to lift 50lbs
  • Able to perform the job responsibilities in confined areas and/or differing environments
  • Standard aircraft seatbelts will fit without alterations
  • Able to function in the cabin of the aircraft without physical restrictions
  • Meets the weight requirement of less than 240 pounds in uniform

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Delivers safe and appropriate care to patients, according to the skills inventory and the age and needs of the patient/population served. Identifies and utilizes available resources to resolve any problems.
  • Coordinates the planning for the delivery of respiratory care with an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary team and administers appropriate clinical decisions in the delivery of patient care, utilizing existing resources and staff, and setting appropriate priorities and patient assignments.
  • Collaborates with, directs, and may delegate to the healthcare team in the attainment of positive outcomes based on data, research, evidence, and professional standards of care.
  • Coordinates treatment plans; develops/implements discharge and/or transfer plans.
  • Participates in a systemic, interdisciplinary, and ongoing evaluation of programs, process improvement and desired client-centered outcomes.
  • Considers the diverse needs of each patient through the entire continuum of care, providing and ensuring the highest level of service according to established service standards, optimizing the patient experience.
  • Adheres to all regulatory and Texas Medical Board of Respiratory Care and AARC standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, within scope of practice and clinical competency.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
