Anticipated Pay Range:$68,500 - $69,300 annual salary
Pay Range Information:Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Job Description Summary:Responsible for the management of a 300 to 430-bed residence area. Supervises 8-12 student employees. Oversees all aspects of building operations including community-building efforts, facilities issue liaising, occupancy data management, and other needed functions. Serves as a student conduct case officer. Provides significant input for program development in building. Shares on-call duty with other professional and graduate staff. Completes department assignments, administrative tasks, training, leadership, and customer service. Supports other departmental operations and programs as needed.
Responsibilities:Supervision & Advising
- Direct supervision, training, evaluation, and selection of 6-8 Resident Advisors.
- Holds weekly staff meetings Assists in the design and implementation of intensive fall training and other ongoing training for Student Staff
- Advises Community Council, including but not limited to: executive board recruitment and development, large-scale programming efforts, liaise with campus partners regarding advocacy efforts, and community meeting planning
Administration and Building Management- Manages all key operational procedurals for residential communities, including but not limited to: check-ins, check outs, major facilities issues, summer transitions, etc.
- Assists with occupancy management processes for area through housing management software, StarRez
- Maintains regular office hours each week
- Addresses facilities issues with appropriate staff members in and out of department Monitors expenditures from building budget(s) and completes purchases pertaining to building supplies and programming needs
- Shares responsibility for on-call duty coverage, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day including holidays
- Completes semester and year end reports as requested by departmental leadership
- Participates in weekly staff and individual meetings with supervisor
- Participates in Senior Staff training and development
Student Support and Development- Counsels students on personal and academic issues and refers to the other campus departments when appropriate
- Manages student psychological or behavioral issues/crises in conjunction with supervisor and other campus departments
- Addresses community concerns
- Confronts policy violations in the residence halls
- Adjudicate administrative hearings known as "community conversations" for Chapman University students who have allegedly violated policy
- Stays informed of student development theory, trends, and research to inform professional practice
- Works with Residence Life and First Year Experience team to identify behavior trends and address them through programming and education
Other Administrative Duties- Serve on departmental committees as needed
- Serve on division or University committees as appropriate
- Participate in appropriate departmental and campus meetings
- Serve as Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act
Required Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required,
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels both inside and outside the University
- Good time management skills and the ability to prioritize duties when faced with interruptions, distractions, and fluctuating workload
- Ability to exercise initiative and work independently
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Ability to track, collect, and synthesize data in spreadsheets and report formats
- Ability to use tact and diplomacy and to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Ability to present and lead training for students and professional staff
- Ability to handle crises in a calm and professional manner
- Ability to counsel others in an informal setting regarding personal and academic issues

- Understanding of college student development theory and a commitment to working with students
- Ability to maintain positive attitude and serve as a role model to the students

Desired Qualifications:- Master's degree in higher education, college student affairs, counseling or a related field preferred.
- Previous full-time or graduate level live-in work experience, particularly in a college setting
