Research Specialist A

Job Description Summary

The Research Specialist for the Perelman School of Medicine Department of Cardiology will assist postdoctoral fellows in the Arany lab to carry out molecular studies in cardiovascular metabolism. Procedures may include western blotting, quantitative realtime PCR, mitochondrial respiration studies, and others. Willingness to work with mice is preferred but not required.

Job Description

This position is contingent upon favorable funding.

Job Responsibilities

  • Tissue preparation, mitochondrial isolation, and respiration studies.
  • Quantitative real-time PCR evaluations of tissue gene expressions.
  • Genotyping of mouse DNA by PCR, gel electrophoresis.
  • Preparation of tissues and cell cultures for histological processing and other lab duties.
  • Mouse husbandry, setting up mating pairs, weaning pups, ear tagging, daily checks of the colony and careful record keeping.
  • Western blotting of murine tissue samples, and other molecular biology techniques.
  • Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Bachelors in a relevant field preferred ( biology, chemistry, genetics, etc.).

Salary offers are made based on the candidate s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job s level.
