The Lilly Diabetes, Obesity, and Complications Therapeutic Area has created a research team focused on discovery and preclinical development of new therapeutics for the treatment of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease (ASCVD) and Obesity. The team is looking for an experienced in vitro biologist to develop, validate and conduct in vitro and cell-based pharmacology assays for drug discovery projects. The candidate should have a proven track record in the implementation of in vitro assays and be able to consistently follow detailed protocols and provide critical and thorough data evaluation. The candidate is expected to work in collaboration with the ASCVD, Obesity, and Incretin Discovery groups in a team-oriented environment and to support other groups when expertise as needed.
- Design, validate and implement in vitro assays for novel therapeutics.
- Apply state of the art automation to enable compound screening in 384-well assay format or greater, experience with multidrop liquid dispenser, echo liquid handler, is preferred.
- Critically evaluate data using NGR data analysis software.
- Perform cell culturing and process tissues collected from animal studies. Use molecular biology/biochemistry techniques, including nucleic acid transfection, stable or transient cell line generation and evaluation, and gene expression profiling (qPCR).
- Develop and perform assays in the area of receptor pharmacology including receptor binding, and functional cellular readouts, such as cAMP, phosphorylation, calcium and other biomarkers and molecular biology techniques such as ELISA, SDS-PAGE and Western blotting.
- Accurate record keeping, independent data analysis, and reporting of data in written and oral formats. Perform work in full compliance with Lilly Research Policies, and complete all required training activities in the timeframe specified.
- Ability to be pro-active, flexible, and capable of independent trouble shooting and problem solving. Work within a team-oriented lab environment and work within cross-functional project teams.
Basic Qualifications
Undergraduate or Masters degree in biology or a closely related field
Additional Skills/Preferences
- Experience and willingness to work with radioisotopes, chemical, and biological hazards.
- Experience in diabetes and/or metabolic diseases is preferred.
- Proven ability to work in flexible, team-oriented environment.
- Oral/written communication/listening skills in English are essential.
