Job Description
Research Scientist to establish and direct research projects within the Division of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery in a basic/translational laboratory studying brown adipose tissue and cardiovascular function helps to design and implement research projects with a specific focus on ER stress Duties will include study design; protocol and report writing; assistance in the set-up of new clinical trials; identification and pursuit of new research directions; coordinating writing and submission of grant proposals as co-investigator to extramural funding agencies to obtain significant salary and research support; develops, adopts and implements new laboratory methods; develops hypotheses and experimental approaches to test these hypotheses; plans, designs and conducts complex experiments; extracts, compiles, analyzes and evaluates data to establish relevance to the problems being evaluated; administers grants; directs and manages grant budgets; manages laboratory operations; writes manuscripts, articles, abstracts and research reports for publication in peer-reviewed journals; attends and presents research findings at national and international scientific conferences; develops and conducts educational workshops, lectures and seminars; collaborates with other researchers in determining research priorities and planning programs of research; trains, mentors and supervises junior investigators, postdocs, graduate students, and research staff in the laboratory.
Minimum Education Required
Doctorate (Professional) or equivalent combination of education and experience in biomedical research
Required qualifications:
Doctorate degree in biomedical science or equivalent, extensive experience with adipose biology, obese/diabetic models, peripheral nerve imaging and molecular analyses, mouse models of neuropathy. Experience in grant writing, conducting research, publishing papers, presenting findings and teaching trainees. Requires successful completion of background check. Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
