Research & Development Manager

Responsibilities

• R&D Process: develop & implement a consistent and effective R&D process from simple ideas right through to being ready for market.
• Product Development: Lead the research and development of innovative façade systems, materials, and technologies, ensuring alignment with architectural trends, sustainability goals, and client needs
• Product Improvement: Analyse performance feedback, installation challenges, and maintenance data to identify opportunities for product refinement. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the performance, durability, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability of existing façade products.
• Budget Management: Manage the R&D budget, prioritising R&D projects to ensure the best return on investment. To identify and focus on only those areas which will secure the best return.
• Team Leadership: Manage and mentor the R&D Designer, providing guidance and oversight on projects.
• Market Research & Client Engagement: Collaborate with Marketing and Business Development teams to identify market needs and client requirements for new product development.
• Supply Chain Collaboration: Work closely with suppliers to assess the feasibility and efficiency of materials and processes.
• Sustainability & Recycling: Ensure the use of the most efficient and sustainable processes possible, including exploring the use of recycled materials in product development.
• Testing & Compliance: Oversee and conduct fire, structural, acoustic, thermal, and installation efficiency testing at certified testing houses to ensure compliance with relevant building regulations and industry standards.
• Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) & Carbon Assessments: Support the HSEQ department in the production of EPDs and carbon assessments for products.
• Documentation & Standards Compliance: Support the creation of marketing and technical documentation while ensuring all products meet industry regulations and standards.
• CAD Library Ownership: Maintain and manage the company s product CAD library.
• R&D Tax Claims Support: Work with the Finance team to support R&D tax relief claims.
