GRAIL is seeking a Laboratory Manager for the R&D lab at our Menlo Park headquarters. You will lead lab and instrument maintenance as well as support R&D lab work execution whenever possible, as an opportunity for continued growth. The ideal candidate is a meticulous, self-motivated, and outstanding teammate with some hands-on laboratory experience. The candidate will partner with many functions of our organization - R&D, Automation, Engineering, EH&S, Facilities, and Quality - to identify requirements and implement processes such as upkeep 5-Sigma standards, coordinate instrument maintenance plan, ensure adequate waste disposal, write documentation, and be instrumental in the day to day operations of the GRAIL R&D laboratories. Prior experience maintaining labs with ISO 13485 certification is a plus.
Responsibilities:
  • Be responsible for equipment maintenance according to the laboratory's standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair with equipment engineers.
  • Responsible for maintaining sufficient inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment in the laboratory for performance of duties.
  • Develop and write SOP for equipment maintenance and operation as needed.
  • Assist R&D with lab task execution.
  • Assist with training of new laboratory personnel and training of new procedures with existing personnel.
  • Coordinate equipment training of the lab staff with the vendor.
  • Follow guidelines when handling, storing, and disposing of hazardous or bio-hazardous materials.
  • Be the point of contact for new equipment installation or any laboratory related activity.
  • Work closely with Facilities and Quality to understand and implement requirements for ISO 13485 certification.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS/BA degree and 5-8 years of related experience or Masters and 2-5 years of related experience
  • Strong communicator and team player, able to establish collaborative relationships with colleagues and vendors as needed.
  • Self-motivated to execute high-quality work through strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail, following good laboratory and documentation practices.
  • Able to integrate and apply feedback in a professional manner.
  • Able to prioritize, complete assignments, and drive to results with a high emphasis on quality.
  • Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft office (text editor, spreadsheets and slides).
  • Problem solver who can analyze, solve and propose solutions to issues related to the laboratory operations.

The expected, full-time, annual base pay scale for this position is $91,000 - $107,000. Actual base pay will consider skills, experience, and location.
