Job Description SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of Research Compliance and Regulatory Programs, the Research Compliance Coordinator ensures that human subjects research conducted under the auspices of Montclair State University are carried out in such a manner that protects the rights and welfare of participants in research and complies with institutional, local, state, and federal regulations. This position supports the operational needs of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and other regulatory committees by coordinating receipt of and establishing protocol for filing of proposals, scheduling meetings, and follow-up on requests from principal investigators. This position provides professional support via customer service to students, faculty and departments interacting with the Institutional Review Board and other regulatory committees as assigned.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Process and coordinate Cayuse IRB protocol review workflow from submission to approval to ensure a smooth and efficient approval process.
- Maintain knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations for human subjects' protections, most especially federal code of regulations, 45 CFR 46.
- Consult with senior staff members on a regular basis concerning progress on assignments and to resolve problems.
- Serve as liaison to the research community and provide guidance and direction regarding IRB submissions and Board requirements.
- Communicate outcome of IRB deliberations to investigators, sponsors, and funding sources; Prepare and distribute IRB correspondences to Board members, PIs, faculty, staff, and students.
- Maintain all physical and electronic IRB files.
- Develop, deliver, and/or supervise educational workshops/seminars for students, staff and others.
- Order and maintain office supplies and equipment, including track purchasing and spending.
- Develop informative materials regarding the IRB for distribution. Attend and participate in meetings and/or college events related to research, ethics, and compliance.
- Create the IRB meeting and submission deadlines, as well as prepare for meetings.
- Administers MSU's electronic IRB (e-IRB) system. Develop electronic documentation templates and regularly updates all areas of interaction to comply with changing regulatory requirements. Collaborate with e-system provider to improve deliverables to MSU researchers and IRB reviewers.
- Process communication of regulatory committee deliberations to investigators, sponsors, and funding sources
- Coordinate all IRB monthly Board meetings and office staff meetings.
- Support the Director in the periodic review of policies and procedures to stay compliant with federal regulations. Update the Standard Operating Procedures for the IRB office and provide corresponding training as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of two (2) year of experience in professional level administrative work in a research or compliance setting, or a similar field.
- Working knowledge of and experience with Google Workspace.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets.
- Ability to understand, analyze, interpret, and apply established law, regulations, procedures, precedents, and guidelines to all areas of work.
PREFERRED:
- Knowledge of basic budget principles and techniques.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in University environment.
- Experience working with database applications and report generation.
