The Klomp laboratories focus on studying kinase and transcription factor-mediated mechanisms of oncogenicity and drug resistance in KRAS mutant cancers. This position includes assisting in coordinating and overseeing laboratory operations such as planning, designing, and conducting experiments, as well as performing data analysis.
As part of the MSU community, numerous opportunities will be available for presenting research at meetings and continued education experiences.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in coordinating research and laboratory operations to meet research goals.
- Consult with research supervisor to assist in planning and designing experiments.
- Perform experiments and analyze data for research projects.
- Review the work of research technicians and students in the laboratory.
- Oversee the ordering of laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety regulations and procedures.
- Help optimize and write protocols for assays used in the laboratory.
- Stay current with relevant literature in the field, maintaining knowledge of methods and findings that align with the goals of the laboratory.
- Participate in preparing manuscripts and articles for publication.
Communications - Interpersonal relationships:
Interacts with:
- Graduate and Medical students - assist in scheduling and performing experiments.
- Supervisor - meet regularly to receive instructions, exchange information and review data.
- Peers/Staff - discuss experimental results, assay optimizations, and division of labor. Present findings at group lab meetings.
- Faculty/Researchers - discuss lab analyses and report findings.
- Administrators - exchange information necessary for laboratory operations.
- Sales/Service Representative - learn about products/services and communicate to resolve issues with equipment and supplies
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or related science field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in overseeing research projects and laboratory operations, operating and maintaining a variety of laboratory equipment, performing specialized and difficult analytical and research techniques, and designing research experiments in an area related to research being performed; may require software specific to the area of research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position may require special licensing or certification in the field related to the area of employment.
Desired Qualifications
Four-year college degree in related field; 3+ years of laboratory experience and/or MS in related field is desired but not required.
