General Summary:
The Rehabilitation Services Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and management of inpatient and/or outpatient program(s) and assigned staff to ensure quality services are provide in a safe and cost-effective manner, while ensuring the department meet all regulatory guidelines.
Supervisors collaborate with medical and allied health staff in the implementation of the vision and the strategic direction of assigned practices. They facilitate the attainment of departmental goals and objectives to promote optimal patient care. They act as a steward of resources to achieve goals aligned with program direction. The supervisor collaborates with the Manager to develop programs, as well as the recruiting, development, and support of the therapy staff. The supervisor exercises judgment to ensure institutional and departmental policies and procedures are followed. Providing patient care is an expected role of the Therapy Supervisor. The percentage of direct patient care is determined by the Rehabilitation Services management team, based upon current and future programming requirements.
Responsibilities:
1. Coordination of Services a. Assumes interim responsibilities when circumstances necessitate or when requested to do so by leadership for program, education, or operations management. b. Coordinates staff utilization across Rehabilitation Services Monitors employee attendance in compliance with Bayhealth policy and collaborates with department leadership and HR in disciplinary actions as required by policy c. Holds staff meetings as directed and distributes meeting minutes to the leadership team. d. Ensures regulatory compliance within assigned areas of responsibilities and in collaboration with Director, Manager, and peers. e. Assists with maintaining established benchmarks for customer satisfaction f. Demonstrates effective time management and accommodates unforeseen circumstances while maintaining a high standard of quality and service
2. Supervision a. The supervisor maintains active general knowledge of the practice and is willing to step in and assist/coach/mentor therapy staff as required. b. Supervisors are accountable for daily staff scheduling, based on workload c. Delegates, communicates with, and supervises the activities of direct reports d. Responsible for the successful orientation of direct reports. e. Timely completion of performance evaluations for direct reports according to Bayhealth policy f. Collaborates with the department manager to develop and implement performance management plans. g. Ensures direct reports complete all required annual competencies and mandatory education requirements h. Ensures that staff meet minimum productivity requirements i. Ensures direct reports have adequate skill acquisition
3. Data Management a. Collects performance and quality data, prepares reports, and submits to the department manager in a timely fashion. Assists with timekeeping responsibilities according to current Human Resource practices and guidelines. Supports direct reports with timekeeping and payroll discrepancies. b. Develops and implements appropriate internal audit processes to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements
4. Provision of Care/Services a. Ensures that patient care is provided in a safe manner, in accordance with accepted professional, departmental, and institutional standards. b. Collaborates directly with nursing and other allied health staff to assure optimal patient care is achieved. c. Ensures that evidence-based practice is incorporated by the department to support professional decisions in the provision of patient care
5. Documentation a. Mentors staff on proper billing codes and documentation standards to meet all regulatory and compliance issues b. Reviews changes in coding and billing standards and disseminates this information to staff and leadership team
6. Communication a. Facilitates and ensures ongoing and effective collaboration between clinical staff and other supportive personnel and therapy staff b. Participates in collaborative relationships with other health practitioners and the public at large c. Keeps manager informed of any customer service concerns and ensures timely resolution. d. Provides manager with ongoing updates of staff performance issues and customer complaints e. Involved with marketing of rehabilitation services (as directed) to appropriate referral sources
7. Fiscal Responsibilities a. Maintains the productivity standard for a supervisor, as outlined by the leadership team b. Collaborates with the manager in the development of the work-unit's annual capital and operational budgets c. Assists with oversight of expenses, including monitoring of overtime and supply costs for the work-unit.
8. Professional Growth a. Participate in staff meetings and applies information to daily activities, as directed b. Participates in appropriate educational programs offered by the organization c. Serve on departmental/organizational committee, as approved or directed by the Manager
9. Performance Improvement a. Collaborates with the manager to implement and oversee quality control processes to ensure excellence is provided by therapy staff in assigned practices b. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of current organizational Performance Improvement initiatives c. Participates in department performance improvement initiatives; assures coordination of departmental programs in accordance with all hospital-wide PI programs and national standards, as applicable. d. Uses current quality and value improvement data to improve clinical outcomes and continuously strives to achieve "best practice" standards of care
10. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities
Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience:
Education: Certificate Program
Master Degree
; Speech Pathology
Health Care
; Graduate of a Speech Language Pathology program
Credential(s): Basic Life Support
Licensed Speech Language Pathologist
; Valid 90 days from hire.
Current (or eligible) for Delaware licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist and compliance with necessary continuing education requirements to maintain licensure.
Experience:
Required: Four years of relevant clinical experience. Extensive experience in inpatient and/or outpatient rehabilitation.
Preferred: Formal training or experience in quality/value improvement processes, patient safety, Joint Commission & other accrediting body standards, and expense management
