The ED is a fast paced environment where nursing staff care for patients of all ages with emergency medical complaints. The high volume GSH ED sees about 45,000 patients each year. Our highly trained staff are supported by a Director, Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, Clinical Coordinators, Clinical Educator, and On-Boarding Specialists. The ED specific orientation is comprehensive to include care for high risk patients, life threatening conditions and illnesses, as well as care of patients with psychiatric disorders, and lower acuity patients. Certifications covered in orientation are BLS, ACLS, and PALS. General Summary

Instructs, counsels, monitors, and evaluates nursing personnel during orientation to hospital or unit; assists in planning, presenting, evaluating, and revising staff development activities; performs duties of charge nurse or clinical nurse when needed.
Duties and Responsibilities

Instructs, counsels, and monitors the work of nursing orientees in the aspects of clinical nursing relative to assigned area; educates nursing orientees concerning nursing policies and procedures.
Collaborates with Clinical Educator and orientee's Nurse Manager in planning and structuring orientation program to meet the individual orientee's needs; plans daily assignments for orientees.
Performs on-going assessment and regular formal evaluations of nursing staff during orientation period; documents all observations and submits recommendations to Nurse Manager (i.e., duration of individual orientation).
Assists Clinical Educator in planning, presenting, evaluating, and revising the staff development activities and orientation clinical plan.
Serves as a role model and resource person for all nursing staff.
Performs duties and responsibilities of charge nurse/team leader or clinical nurse as needed or directed.

In addition to requirements specified in the license and certification section below, current BLS certification for all areas of nursing practice is required.Current certification may be required for the following areas of nursing practice:Emergency Care Center - ACLS, PALSIntensive Care Center & MSCC Lead - ACLS, PALSL&D - ACLS, NRP, - Experienced L&D nurses will obtain within 6 months and new L&D nurses will obtain at 1 year of experienceNICU - NRPPEDS - PALSPCC/PACU/ENDO - ACLS, PALSProcedural - ACLS

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN) or currently enrolled in BSN program with anticipated graduation date within 12 months of starting in role. Required
Masters Degree in Nursing (MSN) Preferred

Work Experience:

5 years Relevant experience. Required

Licenses:

Licensed Registered Nurse Upon Hire Required or
Registered Nurse Multi State License Upon Hire Required and
Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required

Courses and Training:

Specialty Nursing Certification or Preceptor Certification. Upon Hire Preferred
