Position Summary:

The pay for this position ranges from $43.28-67.65.

To provide high quality nursing care for Emergency Department patients in accordance with nursing standards of practice. Responsible for the management, coordination, monitoring, promoting and evaluation of processes and activities related to the Emergency Department and Emergency Preparedness. Maintains collaborative relationships with nursing staff members, physicians, ancillary staff, and ambulance associations to provide quality care. Maintains the appropriate level of knowledge and clinical expertise through continuing education/inservice programs and self development activities to advance care of patients in the following age groups; infant, child, adult and geriatric. Maintains competencies for these age groups.

Education, License & Cert:

Bachelor's Degree required.

Currently licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

The Emergency Department Manger is required to have PALS and ACLS certification.

Certification in Emergency Nursing and active participation at local and state levels in Emergency Nurse Association Chapter is preferred.

Experience:

Two years of medical surgical experience and one year of ICU, CCU or ER experience required. Two years of Management experience preferred. Two years of ED experience required with management experience preferred.

Essential Functions:

Develops and maintains departmental budget. Demonstrates financial conscientiousness in regards to supplies and staffing. Demonstrates cost effective patient care by: proper use and care of equipment, appropriate use of supplies, accurately charging for supplies, delegating and appropriately utilizing available resources. Promotes and maintains effective working relationships. Maintaining a collaborative relationships with all members of the healthcare team. Serves on hospital committees, attends management/leadership meetings. Directs, promotes, and participates in the development, planning, coordination and presentation of comprehensive injury prevention and community education programs. Demonstrates effective leadership, time management, flexibility and priority setting. Serves as a role model for staff and as a role model and preceptor for students. Develops departmental goals consistent with and supportive of Guthrie Health and Towanda Memorial Hospital goals. Reviews and documents goal compliance. Responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of the safety management and emergency preparedness programs at Towanda Memorial Hospital. Requires active participation in the Emergency Preparedness management program of the hospital. Must be familiar with all applicable OSHA requirements. Plans the overall operations of the Emergency Department and Disaster Preparedness program at TMH. Actively participates in the TMH safety committee, Environment of Care Committee, TMH emergency preparedness committee and Guthrie Health Emergency Preparedness committee. Serves as a key member of a multi disciplinary team, which works collaboratively to assure compliance with OSHA regulations, emergency operation systems, and Department of Health. Analyzes and summarizes cardiovascular performance improvement data from a clinical perspective. Demonstrates willingness to accept non routine work assignments as appropriate. Organizes and supervises nursing personnel and ancillary staff in the Emergency Department. Demonstrates and assures compliance with all federal, state, and regulatory agencies, as well as all emergency department guidelines. Develops, organizes, updates and maintains policy and procedures related to the Emergency Department and Disaster Preparedness and ensures staff education and adherence to these policies and procedures. Maintains daily staff scheduling. Maintains departmental records, prepares and submits reports. Tracks quality indicators and statistical information on a monthly and quarterly basis. Conducts evaluations of personnel performance. Provides ongoing orientation and staff development. Recognizes opportunities for ongoing education and coaching of staff members. Organizes emergency room and Emergency Preparedness staff meetings

Other Duties: Demonstrates effective time management, flexibility and priority setting in patient care. Participates in the planning and presentation of educational programs. Leads a mock code quarterly in conjunction with the Education Coordinator. Assumes Administrative responsibility when appropriate. Supports the philosophy of the nursing department Assumes role and duties of a staff nurse as needed. Maintains at least twelve hours of continuing education per year. Maintains appropriate certifications or practice sessions to meet hospital guidelines. Demonstrates competency in the use of emergency equipment, presents pertinent verbal reports of emergency situations, and effectively delegates responsibilities to other staff members and ancillary personnel during an emergency. Acts as liaison between ambulance associations and the hospital. Maintains collaborative relationships with local ambulance associations. Works in conjunction with the Education Coordinator to plan community/pre hospital provider education. Completes and implements counselor/instructor programs such as CPR instructor and HIV counselor.
