Job Description:
As a Registered Nurse in the CDU, every shift is different, which is why you need to know how to assess, recognize and address patients' changing needs. This 16-bed unit is dedicated to caring for patients who need more observation after being seen in the Emergency Department, or after a procedure such as cardiac catheterization, endoscopy or short stay procedure. Patients will remain in the unit 23 hours or less, and will be discharged or admitted based on their condition. RNs and EMTs will staff the unit, and the admitting physicians will provide orders for treatments, discharge or admission.
CDU Scope
The Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) at St Mary's Regional Hospital, opening mid-May, is designed to enhance patient care and flow. This 24/7 dedicated discharging unit will provide focused, short-term care for patients requiring observation or evaluation to determine the appropriate course of treatment.
The CDU is designed to manage overflow from various hospital units, providing short-term care with a targeted length of stay of 24 hours or less. It will streamline patient care by focusing on stabilization, diagnostic evaluation, and timely discharge or admission, and improving hospital-wide patient flow.
