Job Description

Works in close collaboration with Manager, Trauma and Trauma Coordinator to facilitate efficient, effective, quality care for trauma patients across the continuum, utilizing advanced education and expert clinical skills and practice. Collaborates with entire multidisciplinary team to provide case management for trauma patients, enhance customer satisfaction, and maximize patient outcomes. Directs, plans, and facilitates care in collaboration with trauma surgeons, sub-specialists, and nursing and ancillary services. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Experience
  • 5 years of experience in pediatrics with 3 years of experience in emergency, transport, or critical care
Preferred Qualifications
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) instructor or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) instructor
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Certification Summary
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 6 months of employment OR Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ACTN) within 1 year of employment

  • No minimally required knowledge, skills, or abilities
Job Responsibilities
  • Responds to all trauma stats and alerts when in house and oversees all clinical care provided by nursing and ancillary staff.
  • Identifies patients for case management and rounds daily on those patients independently and with trauma team to assess progress in plan of care from admission to discharge, facilitating implementation and documentation of progress and plan outcomes, addressing problems or variations in care and making plan alterations.
  • Communicates with patient and family and reviews plan of care, answers questions, addresses family concerns, and provides update on patient progress.
  • Facilitates communication through daily personal contact between nursing, medical staff, and ancillary departments to ensure all parties are informed and care is not fragmented.
  • Attends regularly scheduled rehabilitation rounds on trauma patients.
  • Works collaboratively with surgeons, neurosurgeon, and orthopedic surgeons in ongoing care of service line patients.
  • Develops and implements protocols, guidelines, pathways, and standard order sets.
  • Screens for current quality improvement indicators and monitors/initiates quality improvement process through identification and recording of those monitors.
  • Assists with collection of registry data as needed.
  • Participates in trauma performance improvement committee, systemwide education, and community trauma education and prevention programs.
