Registered Nurse II - Public Health - Clinical

The Registered Nurse II performs professional nursing work in providing clinical health care to County residents. Work involves planning, overseeing, coordinating and providing services of an assigned public health clinic, including obtaining personal and routine medical information from clients, administering medications and vaccinations, and counseling clients on proper hygiene and health care practices while incorporating Quality Assurance methods into all programmatic activities. Examples of Duties Plans and oversees clinical nursing functions to provide services to County residents in assigned clinic and assists in general nursing functions as necessary in other Department clinics, including prenatal, maternal and child health, women, infants and children, immunization, sexually transmitted diseases, and/or tuberculosis clinics. Orders and stocks medications as necessary; ensures that all established policies and procedures for storing and administering medications are followed. Provides counseling, education, treatment and/or vaccinations, ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures and Quality Assurance standards. Refers clients to Department clinics or programs, and/or other health care professionals or human services agencies. Coordinates programs and activities with other providers, especially Texas Department of Health State and Regional offices. Interviews clients to obtain personal and routine medical data in accordance with established policies and procedures. Weighs and measures clients, measures blood pressure and temperature. Obtains blood samples using aseptic methods, and measures blood sugar and hemoglobin levels. Administers vaccinations and medications as directed by physician, adhering to established policies and procedures. Counsels clients as to proper hygiene and health care practices and routines. Answers inquiries and refers clients to Department programs or community health care professionals and human services agencies, as appropriate. Maintains various activity and client logs, submitting according to established procedures. Schedules clients for visits to clinic. Records and relays messages for physicians or other officials. Travels to and assists at satellite clinics as directed. Regular and punctual attendance is required. Performs other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree and a minimum six years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required. Licensed by the State of Texas as a Registered Nurse. Possession of a valid driver's license. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas driver's license within 90 days of employment.
