Job Summary:

RN I: This position provides basic nursing care in predictable situations to a limited numbers of patients under direct supervision. RN I's are typically new graduates or returning to the professional after a prolonged absence. Performance is guided by rules and competencies to be met. RN I's are able to recognize attributes (i.e., isolated traits, objective measures, or tasks) of a clinical situation without situational experience. With oversight and/or guidance, the RN I's render individualized nursing care to meet the patient's physical, psychological, supportive, and rehabilitative nursing care. Care to each patient is based upon the nursing process and in accordance with the hospital's policy and procedure and CARE values. RN I's participate in other hospital committees and teams as appropriate.

RN II: RN II's independently plan and implement routine nursing care in using standards and knowledge obtained during education and preceptorship. RN II's begin to assume leadership responsibility and needs minimal supervision. An RN II has the ability to use accurate, clear, and concise oral and written communication. RN II's will work as a team and maintain effective working relationships, use critical thinking skills, analyze, and communicate findings effectively. Incumbents require a basic computer literacy and the ability to effectively learn new software programs is required, as well as the ability to efficiently operate a variety of automated office equipment such as print/copy/scan/fax machines/calculators/etc.

RN III: A Registered Nurse (RN) III is an advanced level who is assigned at least one float area and renders individualized comprehensive nursing care to meet the patients physical, psychological, spiritual, social, cultural, and educational needs. RN III provides the best possible preventative, supportive, and rehabilitative nursing care to each patient based upon the nursing process and in accordance with hospital policy and procedure.

The RN functions under the oversight and direction of the Nursing Supervisor. Independently plans and implements routine nursing care in assigned department. Needs minimal supervision. Rapid Response Team and Code Team responder. Float pool Staff may cover ED, CCU, Med/Surg, MHU, OB and RRC.

Minimum Qualifications for the Job:

RN I:
  • License: Current State of Alaska Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Experience: New graduate RNs or RNs with less than one (1) year current acute care or comparable experience, or RN with no nursing experience in the past five (5) years. New graduates will remain at the RN I level for a minimum of six (6) months after the completion of their preceptee program and must promote to an RN II within 18 months of hire.
  • Certification(s):
    • BLS, ALS, PALS
    • Workplace Violence Prevention Training within 90 days of hire

RN II:
  • License: Current State of Alaska Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Experience: Advancement from an RN I or at least one (1) year, continuous experience in a comparable patient care setting. RNs must remain at this level for a minimum of one year before applying for advancement. Note: Reference Clinical Ladder Policy and Clinical Ladder Portfolio Guide for promotion requirements.
  • Certification(s):
    • BLS, ALS, PALS
    • Workplace Violence Prevention Training within 90 days of hire

RN III:
  • Education: BSN preferred.
  • License: Current State of Alaska Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Experience: Three (3) years of current clinical experience. ( Current indicates experience within the last five years from time of application) or, One (1) year of experience as a Bartlett RN II. New employees are required to obtain a float area within 6 months.
    • Proficient clinical competency in primary specialty and a minimum of experience in one (1) float area required when promoting.
  • Certification(s):
    • BLS, ALS, PALS
    • Workplace Violence Prevention Training within 90 days of hire

Internal Hires: Step placement and rate of pay will be determined based on applicable Rules or Union Contract Terms.

External Hires: Step placement and rate of pay will be determined based on relevant experience.
  • RN I starts at $37.77 per hour
  • RN II starts at $42.81 per hour
  • RN III starts at $44.94 per hour
