Job Description:The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care of patients. The staff RN utilizes the nursing process by use of technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice and coordination of care with other health team members. The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Critical Care Float Pool is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care of patients. The RN uses the nursing process with support from technology, therapeutic interventions, evidence-based practices, and collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare team members.
About the Critical Care Float Pool Our Critical Care Float Pool nurses support a variety of critical care environments, with a primary focus on ICU settings. Working in this role provides opportunities to build broad clinical expertise, collaborate with diverse teams, and develop professional connections across departments. Float Pool RNs benefit from a competitive compensation structure that includes an additional differential and stacked shift differentials.
We prioritize patient-centered care through hourly rounding, bedside reporting, and balanced nurse-to-patient ratios. The facility is recognized as a Heart and Neurovascular Center, an accredited Chest Pain Center, a Comprehensive Stroke Center, and a Level II Trauma Center.

Key Responsibilities - Assess physical, psychological, and social status of patients, including developmental and cognitive abilities
- Collaborate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to direct and coordinate care
- Develop individualized care plans based on assessment data and clinical judgment
- Provide or delegate patient care in accordance with care plans, guidelines, and licensure
- Prepare patients for discharge needs, including education, referrals, and follow-up care
- Evaluate patient responses and adapt interventions accordingly
- Maintain compliance with legal and ethical standards and document care accurately
Minimum Qualifications - One (1) year of nursing experience in an ICU setting, required
- ASN / ADN from an accredited program with the ability to obtain your BSN from an accredited program within four (4) years of hire unless you possess a minimum of fifteen (15) years of proven continuous Registered Nurse experience in an acute care setting, required
- Current Colorado RN license or compact license with the ability to obtain Colorado RN license, required
- Current BLS certification endorsed by the American Heart Association, required (ACLS/NRP/PALS as appropriate for unit or service)
Position Details - Shift Type: Full-time, Night shifts
- Float Pool Differential: Additional $7.00 per hour
- Shift Differentials: 7-12% stacked on top of float differential
- Location: Lutheran Medical Center, Wheat Ridge, CO
- Relocation Assistance: May be available for qualified candidates
Physical Requirements:Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.- and -Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.- and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.- and -Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).- and -May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
