DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work with management to set goals for territory
  2. Understand Steel Technologies strengths and value proposition
  3. Engage in your education and development within the company
  4. Become the subject matter expert for all business available within your territory and keep good records to communicate information to management
  5. Prospect new business and solicit quotes for business that is in alignment with our value proposition
  6. Respond to quotations in a timely manner using the company standard quoting format
  7. Convert quotations into earned business
  8. Maintain existing business, improving profit where possible, and grow within existing accounts
  9. Accountable for monthly forecasts and for working with customers to improve forecast accuracy
  10. In conjunction with inside sales, purchasing, business planning and management, manage customer inventory and accounts receivable to meet agreed return on working capital targets
  11. Ensure pricing updates are clearly communicated to inside sales in a timely manner
  12. Monitor daily sales report to ensure correct pricing is applied and profit targets are met
  13. Work with quality and inside sales to evaluate and expedite customer claims
  14. Make in-person calls and entertain customers appropriately to grow and maintain relationships
  15. Provide market intelligence to customers and become a trusted partner
  16. Know the customers business and move up the value chain within the customer
  17. Other duties as assigned


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge and understanding of sales
  • Knowledge of internal controls and procedures
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work to work effectively with all levels of management and employees
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of steel and other flat rolled metal products

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Prefer a Bachelor's degree in a related field and one to five years of experience in regional sales. Formal education may be substituted with experience and training when competency in the position is demonstrated.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This work is performed in an office setting with minimal to moderate noise due to computers, printers, and people.
